Was anyone else unimpressed by Rage?

Everything i have seen from Rage looks like a mix between Borderlands and Fallout 3. Don't get me wrong I loved both of those games. It doesn't seem to have anything we've never seen befroe. Post apocolypse wasteland filled with mutants, guns and vehicle sections. Gametrailers and IGN both gave it game of show. Seriously? Is this just me, or does everyone else see this too?

EDIT: Gametrailers didn't just give it game of show. They also gave it best PC game, best 360 game and best PS3 game.

ANOTHER EDIT: Just to make myself clear. I don't hink that Rage will be bad, in fact it will probably be pretty good, I'm just saying that it didn't impress me and I feel that it is being overhyped.

It has similar themes but from what I've seen it goes pretty in depth with the level designs and what not. I'll reserve judgment till I see more.

I just saw the trailer. We just went through a "realism" phase (actually, we're still in it), we don't need a long strain of postapocalyptic action RPGs attempting to replace Fallout and Borderlands.

I think it looks awesome. Describing it as a cross between Borderlands and Fallout 3 is quite apt, and both of those happen to be games that I love. I'm looking forward to it.

No you weren't. I also like how you disguised the "am i the only one..." question too. Clever...

This appears to be an "Am I the only one?" thread in disguise.
But no matter. The setting for rage certainly isn't original, but it's a setting that I know and love, so why shouldn't I get it? Not everything has to be original to be good.

I'm actually looking forward to it. The engine itself looks amazing, the game seems to have a great tone to it, and it looks like the game is actually focusing on AI for once. From what I've read, it has more of a Farcry 2 feel to it, so it's not really competing in the same field as Fallout 3 and Borderlands, which are much more RPG heavy.

First time I saw it I thought "looks like a more serious Borderlands. TO THE PRE-ORDER LINE!" I loved Borderlands, but one thing that I thought was off was the fact that it was far to cartoony. you see, in an open world game that I've one hundred percented I like to role play. I just come up with a new narrative or a new back story, maybe get some different equipment or something, and it being very cartoony really didn't allow for that. You had to play it how it wanted or it just didn't look right, but Rage seems to have fixed that. It also helps that I think iD is an awesome developer.

It looks awesome. "Because you seen it before" isn't a negative point. If anything it's a positive, you know what to expect... or you think you do.

It's a new ID FPS franchise. That alone sets it apart.

Also it was it development before either Borderlands or Fallout 3 was released.

It kind of reminds me of what Borderlands was originally going to be as it was planned to be very grey, gritty and realistic. I prefer the cell shaded style a thousand times over the gritty look any day

They're getting smarter!

OT: I'm interested, but not sold on it yet.

Knowing what to expect isn't always good.

I don't even think it looks like a cross between Fallout 3 and Borderlands; it looks like Borderlands with less spectacular cel-shading.

I saw it and my mind went straight to Borderlands, which I hated with a passion, so that gives you my answer I guess, it didn't impress me but we'll see.

Haven't seen anything about the game, but you saying it's like Fallout 3 has actually peaked my interest.

I don't necessarily mind games that are similar to previous good games. As long as they're good and interesting, it's all good times :)

It looks so boring to me. I mean, maybe its visuals are spectacular, but so what? If everything else is something I've seen before than I don't give a shit.

Amen. It may be similar, but I think thats only because those are the only two big post apocalyptic games. When you think apocalypse gaes, you think fallout, and borderlands was just awesome. Fallout 3 is personally, my favorite game. Anything like Rage Ill give a shot, because maybe it is like fallout, but ill try it out on its own merit anyways.

Besides, its not like FPS's havent been great just copying each other. Just cause it may seem familiar doesnt mean to write it off. Look forward to it man, you may be surprised.

The back-story is crazily close to those of Fallout and Fallout 3's. I don't care, but it's kinda funny - just swap some of the words around and you've got a rough Fallout.

"The game will be set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland created by an asteroid impact. The world will be populated by human survivors of the impact who were preserved from the asteroid by being buried in cryo-pods called Arks.

The world will also be populated by mutants who will serve as your main enemies at least for the first half of the game, as id are currently talking of a major change at the midway point of the game."
- shamelessly ripped from Wikipedia.

To judge a game on the similarities of its back-story and setting compared to other games is stupid, however, and I await the release date to form a proper opinion.
