Some of you may remember my thread a couple of days ago where I was looking for some help on what to write as lyrics for my song. Unfortunately, after the word got out, There's been a falling out. My friend is saying that I'm essentially being selfish, because I want to claim the song I have written as my own work rather than a joint effort (justly so as I wrote the music and now the lyrics to it). Funnily enough it's not even the same friend that wrote the lyrics, who seems to have taken it quite well. But the other friend hasn't been as gracious. One thing led to another, and he said to me that I would give up on it like I give up on everything else, saying I would lose my heart in it. After this I just couldn't stay in the conversation any longer, and I left.

As for conversation, I'd like to ask you was I right to claim the song as entirely my own (accepting also to record it all myself), or am I being selfish?

EDIT: Here's the link to the original thread:

Actually, to widen the scope of conversation, Have you ever been in a situation where you felt something you created was losing touch with you? If so, how did you react? If not, how would you react?

So he just sort of inspired you? I never saw the other thread...

Anyway, if that's the case, he's being a dick. I mean, you could make a note that he helped you a bit, but you should still get the credit for it.

And isn't this what happens in the Facebook movie? That's the way the trailer makes it out, at least.

Could you link the other thread in your post OP?

Anyway, it seems like he is getting upset that you are getting really involved in something he would rather just leave alone.

If you are making the music and the lyrics, you are not being selfish.

Still, maybe it would provide more context to this thread if you could post a link to the other thread.

I never follow through with my ideas so I like mentioning them to my friends and sorta hope one of them will do something with it:p

Although if it was something I was intending on doing myself, I'd probably be annoyed and mention it to them.

Whether you were right or wrong doesn't matter. What matters is that you have a problem, and its up to you to fix it.

Your friend may have been a dick, but giving him credit and working with him is whats going to put you in the right.
