Was Lando a bad guy?

If Lando didn't cooperate, Vader wouldn't have had any qualms about blowing the city out of the clouds. Lando knew this, and had to make a tough choice. He wasn't a bad guy, he was in a bad situation and had to choose between the needs of the many, and the needs of the few.
It always annoyed me how people vilified Lando. He did what any responsible ruler would, and he obviously hated himself for doing it. Especially when Vader kept altering the deal they had made.

Just like Han Solo he was the morally doubtful character that would redeem himself before the end.
No no, he was told by Vader that he had to set them up or he would destroy Cloud City. And the original deal was that Vader get's Luke, but the rest of them remain on Cloud City under house arrest. Vader altering the deal to give Han over to Fett and take Leia and Chewie away made him decide that he'd rather lose his city then let him get away with that.Troublesome Lagomorph said:

I'd say that he was a good character, supporting what he had built with his own hands. He was involved in fixing every problem he started in the end anyway.
From a strategy perspective. He took a situation in which he could not win, retreated and let the enemy gain a victory and forget about him and when worked to regain everything that was lost with minimum causalties.
I would say he was a good man. Now if he had turned over Han and then said f' this I'm not going to tangle with the empire. Or if he had taken money or other personal benefit from vader then you could say he was a bad man. However, I think he was just a man put in a no win scenario who figured out how to take a temporary small loss rather than a larger more lasting loss and then got back what was taken with interest.

It's SO FUCKING BAD! In almost every way.
The producers kept telling him it was crap and over half a decade of rewrites and help from his friends he finally came up with the script. The Phantom Menace was filmed under a first-draft script.
I think WE are somewhat to blame for the Prequel Trilogy, because we treated Lucas as if he was some infallible genius where any interference could destroy his perfect vision, when in fact it was the opposite. The more obstructions put in his way, the better he got got. Brilliance through adversity.
He directed the Prequels from a chair using green screen and simple sets, nothing ever challenged him. No one ever dared him to do better. He never had to match anyone artistically, only financially.
He was a businessman first and foremost. He had to look after his own interests and trust his friend, who had gotten himself out of many such sticky situations in the past, would somehow survive this encounter.
Plus he has made it up to Han time and time again since then, not least of which being the Sarlacc encounter familiar to the casual fans.

It is a simple matter of "The needs of a few vs. the needs of many." Of course even that has its own argument within, as betraying our protagonists would save Cloud City and therefor "many," doing so risks the lives of everyone in the entire galaxy or even the universe as the loss of the few Jedi left in the galaxy would surely allow the Galactic Empire to squash the Rebellion which is now somewhat scattered after the invasion of the planet Hoth. I think Lando did not think as far ahead as he should have, and while his intentions were good, intentions do not mirror the true morality of results.
being a political leader is tough.... yo have to make decisions some people wont like for the betterment of the community you lead thats what lando did
What you got to ask yourself is was there any point that he could have actually stopped Vader from getting Han?
