Was the joker played by anyone else but Heath Ledger?

He died after it was made, during the editing I think, so after all his scenes were filmed and being prepped for the finished article. At the time of his death he was working on a tribute music video to Nick Drake....the song Black Eyed Dog I believe, it's about depression and how it always follows you like a dog follows its master.

It wasn't the Dark Knight you're thinking of. I can't remember the name, but he died while filming a different movie.
yeah It's a film by terry Gilliam. I mentioned this and they are certain it is the Dark Knight.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Uses Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell. Damn good film, watched it a few days ago.
I concur. One of Gilliam's best films yet.
I had no idea Verne Troyer could actually act.
And Tom Waits is the best casting for the Devil... ever.

Ledger died post-production. They wouldn't need a stand-in when all of his scenes have been shot and captured.

for that they did finish the film with other actors, who each donated their fees for the film to Ledger's daughter who was accidentally left out of his will as he had forgotten to rewrite it after she was born.
Yeah, I suppose he wasn't expecting to drop dead quite that early.

That's a pretty neat move by the trio of replacements. Brownie points for all of them.

On topic: Joker = Hamill. There is no other. Heath's interpretation was...interesting, to be sure, but just didn't feel like Joker to me most of the time. Some equally crazy, also noteworthy villain, yes, but not Joker.

Lol. I was so amazed when I found out that he did the voice of the Joker. He is the best.

wow, your stupidity amazes me, you do not have access to google or wikipedia? Ledger was a gay cowboy, always...
Jack Nicholson was a terrible Joker by comparison. Not dark enough and not funny enough... just creepy and stupid. Ledger had the best live-action Joker, but I have to say Mark Hamill's animated Joker will always be the best.

OT: He died after production of movie. But if they ever needed to bring Joker back (even for a brief cameo), I wonder who they'd get. My money is on Johnny Depp just because I get the feeling he'd be the only one who could pull it off to the same style as Ledger and not screw it up royally.

Really, Heath Ledger died after the production of the Dark Knight, and really, despite popular belief, he could be replaced. I am ashamed to say it, but since they replaced Katie Holmes with Maggie Gyllenhaal for Rachel, they proved that they could replace actors for the characters. One really just needs to get the right build of face.

It would be hard with Heath Ledger, since he was rather unique, but I would say James Franco from Pinapple Express, or mor infamously as Harry Osborn, just put the makeup on and let him practice his smile and he could prove to be a perfect candidate.

I think it's obvious that Keanu Reeves should replace Heath as the Joker. The man has incredible range and expression.

Jack will always be the old Joker, and Ledger will be the new one. It's your personal opinion to which one you prefer.
Cesar Romero was the original Joker. Jack is just a cheap imitation.

How about a Cesar Romero Joker voiced by Mark Hamill?

We need a cloning machine to merge the two, now.
I don't think cloning means what you think it means.
The creation of artificial beings* is cloning, no? How isn't it cloning if you create a being based off two Jokers?

* Unless you make one through magical means making a chimera or alchemical resulting in a homunculus, the latter being more akin to the Joker's first origin.

Creation of identical beings is cloning. When you clone something you make a copy of it. You're genetically engineering something out of two people; they product will not be identical to either of them, so it is not a clone.

Here's where it becomes impossible...which laugh is better?

Cesar Romero's -
Mark Hammill's -
Or the brilliant Frank Gorshin as the Riddler -

(Heath and Jack come in second to those two I'm afraid)

I thought that they had all of his major scenes done before he died and anything else was easily done by a stunt man in a wig.

I know that's what they did after Brandon Lee died during production of The Crow.
When they made the crow, it was the same deal. They made the scene where he gets shot near the end of production, it was then that the fatal "inverted pyrotechnic charge" folly spelled his end. They just used a man of similar build for the scene where he rises from the grave and goes to his old apartment, as you see he never showes his face, he's usually holding it in his hands.
