That had realistic unit scales on everything? I mean, it's pretty awkward to see a Starcraft battlecruiser that can barely fit 4 marines inside it in-game when the cinematics clearly tell otherwise.

From what I have played, World in Conflict had this property but it was an RTT rather than RTS. Company of Heroes was the closest to realistic scaling in an RTS as I have noticed (buildings are still small though). Sins of a Solar Empire is in there too i guess.

So, was there any RTS you played with such property?

Sincerely,

Your best bet would be to look at the Total War series, or, if you are into modding, grab Star Wars: Empire at War.

If you take Empire at War, get the Phoenix Rising Mod. To scale units for every single ship in Star Wars.

I'd say the Men of War-series. It's more or less Company of Heroes with the realism cranked up to... Sadistic levels. Everything is scale-consistent, but that's really the very tip of the iceberg. Basically, every single soldier is his own little unit, with health and an inventory. Yes, inventory, you will need to restock your men with ammunition, in the event they survive long enough to spend whatever they spawn with. Every killed unit can be looted for equipment, so if you end up with a burnt-out tank and a pair of surviving tank crew men, you can tear off the machine gun and set up a nest nearby. Just neat little things like that.

I really can't describe it very well, without becoming gushy and hard to follow, but I really recommend you check out the Men of War-series if you're interested in (brutally) realistic RTS-games. The newest game in the series that's set in WW2 would be Men of War: Assault Squad, which should be available on Steam.

I also recommend checking it out on Youtube and such, it's much more easy to see what I mean on video, and it's also not a bad way to learn some of the ropes faster, without getting horribly slaughtered right from go too much.

This lad got some very interesting shoutcasts of Men of War-matches, a good a place as any to look for video material of the game. And again, invaluable tips for how to play the game.

Yeah, the total war series is probably your best bet. It has always been known for its huge battles. Last one I played was Empire: Total War. Honestly, I'm not a big fan of that style of RTS. Just gets to be a bit much to manage, I guess.

Halo Wars to Xbox does has realistic scale, C&C 3 Tiberium Wars has realistic scale. These are some I think have it but to be honest, would it be fun to play for example SC with a Battlecruiser that takes up half the map?
Or SC where the ground units are so small that they look like they fit in the Battlecruiser?
None of these would really be any fun and just seem... well stupid since either it would look like you are controlling a ant army or controlling a fullblown space station in low atmosphere!

I do see your point. I was just wondering at the 'what-ifs' of SC when it scales that way.

Homeworld (1, cataclysm and 2).

Being a 3D RTS in space means you have room to make ships as big and as small as you want. :p

Not that I know of. You can have a massive flagship that holds 500 marines but having it be 500+ times bigger than a marine is going to cause problems cause you could just hide your entire army under it.

Eh, I think visual scale is less of an issue than umm... "combative" scale.

The gist being that in the cutscences a battlecruiser is a huge thing that can carry your entire base around and is loaded with guns. In game its a poxy little thing with one gun and carrying capacity for 4 guys.

A fair few of the star trek and star wars games are pretty good at keeping that consistent. But I admit, its a borderline gamebreaker when cutscenes and ingame abilities don't match. *cough* mass effect 'oh no, nameless mook is dead and we can't possibly revive him the way we do everyone else in the game that falls over. Also, he died in one shot. The rest of us will be ok taking 3 or 4 hits from the same thing' *cough* man thats one heck of a cough I have there.

Sins of a Solar Empire, the scale of the units in that was incredible, especially when you can zoom in realy close in a fighter and zoom out to see an entire galaxy in real time

Too bad the A.I. is batshit bonkers unplayable in single player. Though MP is still fun, if you can find a game.
Unplayable in what way? The enemy too skilled or your own units too stupid?

Thanks for linking that. Looks interesting, sorta like a WWII version of the Myth games. Definitely going to check it out.
