ok so im playing smash bros brawl with my friend yesterday, he's flying around and jumping as meta knight, someone behind him asked what he's doing, he said "I'm doing meta knight things!", and then i said "you could say he's being (paused for a moment) Meta!" and he proceeded to look at me like i farted on his sandwhich. So what do you guys think, was it stupid or funny?

Well, I chuckled, so there's that at least.

I like puns, though, and I've noticed that a lot of people seem to really despise them for some reason. Sure, some of them are really stupid or really stretching for a connection, but every now and then you get one that just really smashes it.

Was it this look?

Because that's what I just did at my computer...

That was a pretty bad pun. Unfortunately, it just wasn't bad enough to deserve a David Caruso "Sunglasses + YEAAAH!" combo. If you paused the game in order to put your sunglasses on, it MIGHT have been able to squeak by...

Not the best pun I've heard, it was decent but it felt like there was no effort in it man.

Maybe next time.

Kudos for thinking of it on the spot, I suppose. But hey even lame puns are funny for being extra lame, right?

That depends.

Did you say the bad pun, knowing it was bad, and because it was?

Or because you genuinely thought the pun was good?

If it was the former then I say it's okay, because I do that all the time and naturally I am not going to criticise anything that I do.

If it was the latter, it was bad and you should feel bad.

If it were an actor it would deserve a guest appearance as a murdered crackhead prostitute on whatever CSI show is still running.

I honestly said it because even if it wasn't funny, at least i caught it, like a foul ball

That is such a bad pun. Kinda reminds me of something my friends and I do whenever we make a bad pun, intentionally or not: in the part of the CSI pun meme that uses The "YEAAAH!", we usually replace that with a completely unrelated song's lyrics and shit. My favorite so far has been from "Rooster" by Alice in Chains.

Yeah, I have to go with not funny, but then again presentation is everything. If you nailed the presentation emphasizing that it was supposed to be so lame it became funny then it could work.

Maybe it was funny, maybe it wasn't. I could tell you a lot of stories about jokes that cracked me up that wouldn't make you laugh because you weren't there. Also jokes in text aren't as funny to read as a spoken joke is to hear. Live jokes are also better than recordings.

Comedy is really complicated...

It's the sort of thing that might have gotten a chuckle out of me if I were in the right mood, but it definitely isn't comedy gold or anything.... Still, lame puns need to be made, so good job!!

Hmm. Yeah kinda terrible. Reminds of when I was watching Lord of the Rings with a friend, and he commented
"Well, you might say that man was boulder than most!"
as a soldier was crushed by a chunk of rock during the siege of Minas Tirith.
Oh that's a good pun!!!
I'm still laughing xD

On Topic:

Not sure, I think usually bad puns are good because they are so bad... ify'knowwhatImean
Should've been there to evaluate I guess...

The first rule when it comes to being funny- if you have to ask, the answer is no.

Puns are like beer- done by a professional it can be a well-crafted, high-quality beverage experience, but if you drink something thrown together in an old college friend's garage you just end up in the hospital with a tube in your stomach and half of your liver missing.

Oh God, I'm going to hell for laughing at that. I have a terrible soft spot for cringeworthy puns.

OT: More stupid than funny. But I don't think the point of making puns just for the sake of it isn't meant to be funny in the first place. I see it more as a torture method.
