Was Twilight's sparkle vamps just the evolution of vampires or a completely missing the point?

Still off-topic: Yeah, no, I thought I recognized the first name based solely on the last name, had to actually go back and make sure that was his first name.
Close enough; Owyn was mentioned as Thom's motivation for helping the group from Emonds Field in the first place.

Owyn was Thom's nephew. He was a male channeler who was gentled by the red ajah. I can't remember if he committed suicide or just died, but the point is that he didn't live long afterwards, and Thom didn't want to see that happen to anyone else.

The reason nobody remembers him is that all of this happened before the books even begin, and he's not even mentioned past the first book or two.

I think the biggest flaw in Twilight vamps isn't just that they're practically perfect specimens of shiny, happy people who make replicants look like Mr. Glass but that S&M treats this new fangled condition of perfection in the same way as more 'traditional' vampires are. That is, like it's a curse where it's actually the exact opposite. It'd be like Superman constantly telling Lois how it sucks to be awesome incarnate and that his being so awesome is why they can never be together.

...but it's written for young girls who don't really care about such things. So yeah.

There's one problem with Twilight's vampire-wannabes. They don't have the one thing all vampires are supposed to have: A WEAKNESS TO SUNLIGHT. You can't just throw away something that central to vampires and still call your creation a vampire!

I'm not saying they have to burst into flames or flat-out incinerate if they so much as pass a curtain with a hole in it, but it at least has to have some negative effect on them (like getting weaker or feeling a bit of discomfort). Last time I checked, sparkling isn't a negative effect.

The problem with the Twilight Vampires was there were no draw backs to being a vampire. Vampirism is suppose to be a curse and vampires are suppose to be monsters, Twilight just shows abunch of super powered people who live in the woods and the only thing that actaully lead to to belive that they were vampires in the film was thefact that they said that they were.

As for where the vampire Mythos is headed read the Hellsing manga. This is one of the best modern Vampire stories I have read.

I like how The Gates are handling it. Just dab on a lot of sunscreen lotion and you're good to go.

No really, that's how they handle it... and I like it.

As for sparkly vampires, I've already said that if you're against sparkly vampires you're against evolution.
Thing is, evolution hasn't so far produced a perfect being. Meyer's vampires are flawless. (Looking extra beautiful in the sun isn't a flaw.) That's just dull.
Yeah, which is what I had against them to begin with. But they can be killed by humans and werewolves... so at least it's possible. Other than that I completely agree.
