I'm sorry, but 40% of your complaints stem from "I don't like the UI"

When the UI (the thing you have to use constantly) sucks there is a major problem with the game. I feel as a PC gamer the real slap in the face over the UI is that its the console UI, which was designed the way it was to work for people who can't use a mouse and keyboard to play. When you have those two things the way it is set up is so ass backwards its made me stop playing until a mod to fix it comes out.

well you should have bought it on PC, champ. and in case you forgot, oblivion had just as many issues on release as Skyrim, on the PlayStation anyway.

the character creator has nothing to do with the platform
and their are no graphics settings on the PS3 (meaning there is no worst or best. its always the same graphics. So it's either better or not)

so I fail to see what you having it for the PS3 has to do with anything.

the lag issues you are having are caused by the PS3 itself, so tough luck on your choice of gaming hardware.

Oblivion TODAY runs better on the PS3 than Skyrim does. I don't know how it ran at launch because I didn't have it at launch. Good thing I used the word "performs" instead of the past tense version of that word.

Your edits? Yes, I read them and disregarded them. Maybe you could start a new thread about how much Skyrim is than Oblivion and how you have had no technical problems with it on PC and that no one else should have any technical problems on any platform because you didn't. As for me, well, I'll wait for the patch and hope for the best. I may end up selling it back to Gamestop if it remains so choppy post patch.

They are diffrent kinds of games with Skyrim leaning towards the new Action-RPG style. If you want a hardcore RPG play Witcher or something. Skyrim is great just the way it is.

Morrowind was better than Oblivion. Skyrim is better than Oblivion BUT there are still some things that Oblivion does better than Skyrim.

I guess just gave you too much credit, I didn't think you would actually have the lack of foresight and basic reasoning to understand that comparing a new release to a release that had the bugs patched out of it is inherently counter-intuitive (I won't make that mistake again). your problem will just go away in a week tops, JUST like in oblivion mind you.

And I know the issue with the PS3 version, once the file size exceeds 4 GB it becomes unstable, remaining memory be damned. Since it happened with Oblivion too, I would wager that the flaw lies with the PS3 and not Skyrim itself. Maybe you should ***** about sony making a poorly optimized game system? It's not skyrims fault that the PS3 is not up to par.

I personally find Skyrim UI much more functional than Oblivion, once you get used to it. And at least Skyrim doesn't have bandits in full daedric armor demanding 30 gold for safe passage...

I completely agree, that was SO immersion breaking! and all of a sudden the country side was full of the worst horrors the world had to offer, I can't believe all trade between towns wasn't shut down when you hit level 20

That reminds me of the old joke about JRPGs (specifically the 8 bit Dragon Quest games, which were especially bad about it), which goes something to the effect of "Why is the main character the savior of the world when he can barely get a full screen away from the starting town without finding monsters too strong for him to handle? Shouldn't someone from one of the later towns, who must be really strong if they can survive in an area infested with monsters that powerful, just go in and kick the bad guy's butt? They shouldn't even need to do ay extra training to do it."

Dragon Quest is even worse about it than most other series, since it's pretty clear that the main characters aren't even the only adventurers on the planet; there's evidence throughout each game that there are other people trying to make their way in the world by adventuring, although it's not until the third game that you really see people doing it at the same time as you are.

No, it's actually a problem with the save file getting above 6 MB and it seems to be a Bethesda problem as it was an issue in Fallout 3 and New Vegas. It is possibly also why the PS3 didn't get the Oblivion DLC.

I had hoped that since Oblivion GOTY runs pretty smooth on the PS3 that Bethesda may have learned to program the PS3, apparently not.

It may be the Creation engine (which is just a heavily modified Gamebryo engine) or it may just be Bethesda's programmers but it isn't the PS3. If it were the PS3 I fail to see why other companies don't have the same problems with their save files.

yeah, any game were I have to kill tons of low-level mobs to be strong enough to advance to the next level area, reeeeaalllly "grinds" my gears

Well then complain about the lag. The lag is a legitimate issue. however, that was not mentioned in you OP, that was brought in after. So All of your original complaints are invalid, as they are cross platform issues, do you need a reminder of what they were?

No, it's actually a problem with the save file getting above 6 MB and it seems to be a Bethesda problem as it was an issue in Fallout 3 and New Vegas. It is reportedly also why the PS3 didn't get the DLC.

I had hoped that since Oblivion GOTY runs pretty smooth on the PS3 that Bethesda may have learned to program the PS3, apparently not.

It may be the Creation engine (which is just a heavily modified Gamebryo engine) or it may just be Bethesda's programmers but it isn't the PS3. If it were the PS3 I fail to see why other companies don't have the same problems with their save files.

I fail to see how other consoles don't have the same issues the PS3 has. maybe it just sucks? And is there any other TES level games out for the PS3? I honestly don't keep up. I mean in terms of world size and subquests etc

When the UI (the thing you have to use constantly) sucks there is a major problem with the game. I feel as a PC gamer the real slap in the face over the UI is that its the console UI, which was designed the way it was to work for people who can't use a mouse and keyboard to play. When you have those two things the way it is set up is so ass backwards its made me stop playing until a mod to fix it comes out.

and their are no graphics settings on the PS3 (meaning there is no worst or best. its always the same graphics. So it's either better or not)

Fallout 3 and New Vegas use the same engine as the TES games and they have the same issues. I really don't think it's the machine, it's either the engine or the people not trained to program for the cell. I don't know but I hope it gets fixed.

Well it seems to me that the engine is not very compatible with the PS3, whether that's because the PS3 lacks some kind of functionality that the other consoles have or something doesn't mesh right in the engine programming I can't say

My opinion, as humble as it is, is that Oblibion's inventory systems are superior to those in Skyrim. Skyrim bests Oblivion in the visual department, at least from what I've seen from the PC and the 360, and I can't claim to know about the PS3's fps problems. All I can say is I hope that a patch comes out to fix it soon.
I prefer the combat, general gameplay, magic, crafting, and the stealth. Skill perks are both good and bad. Good, because they make you honestly mold your character. No longer can a person be the god-king of Tamriel with 100 in each skill, no, the Perks are required for you to be truly talented. And it's bad because I can't become a god-king, which I suppose is a good thing.
If you like Skyrim, these complaints shouldn't deter you from playing it. If you're on the PC, then you can mod away most of those complaints reasonably easily within a month or so, and I know that with certain shiny pieces of technology, a person can import mods to either/and/both the 360 and PS3.

I find Skyrim to be WAY more immersive than Oblivion was, as I never had to force myself to quit playing Oblivion because I needed to sleep. The inventory system is fun, instead of the boring list Oblivion gave you. Athletics is nit picking, and yes the character creation isn't grand, but it gives you enough options to make your character look good. Plus, that means you don't spend hours trying to make your character's left eyebrow JUST right. Having more options make people less happy when they do decide, so sticking to the basics is better for everyone. Especially since you almost NEVER see your character.

I got one summoning spell that cost no magicka pretty much made the game easysauce . Sit there and make a sandwich while my summons kills everything.

The UI = bad. I can't tell what I have equipped vs items.

I miss the spellmaker. I miss using weapons like staffs in my hands instead of spells.

I miss having more spell armor. I pretty much used the same robes for most of the game.

I agree with athletics and acrobatics. I assume it was nixed due to ease of leveling by simply jumping and running.

The UI is brilliantly designed aesthetically. It isn't beating you in the head with chains and pushed realism. Simple, sleek and modern.

It was not designed for looks. If it was it would be pushed further into the whole norsk aesthetic. ie more knots, more leather, more wood. Again it is very successful due to its balance of form and function. Oblivion's UI pushed form entirely too much. I do, however, agree with the sorting of inventory. Character equipment view is redundant. Wait until you are out of combat and look at yourself. Simple.

I am not big on either game when it comes to performance. Both have what I deem as acceptable limits of 'shit-going-on-edness'.

I stopped playing Oblivion because going through all the Oblivion gates was just annoying and they all looked the damn same and it just frustrated the hell out of me.

The best part of Oblivion for me was the Dark Brotherhood quests and I've yet to meet up with them in Skyrim but apart from that IMO Skyrim is a much better game and a lot more enjoyable for me. But every one has their own opinions so yeah ...

This is the number one thing keeping Skyrim below Oblivion for me. The game is broken on the PS3 due to one major bug. The longer you play, and the bigger your save file becomes, the bigger the frame rate drop becomes. It gets to a point to where you can't really play at all, which means that you have a time limit per character until they fix it.
