Now I guess many of you have story ideas of your own and have posted them on sites like deviantart or other places. You have proboably discovered that it is hard to get anyone to read them or worse, to give feeback.

I would like to get some tips so that all aspiring writers can get our stories read so we can get better.

Please suggest sites, forums or tactics to get feedback on your stories.

While your at it feel free to post a link to a piece.

Summary:

In real life:

join clubs and talk with your friends

Internet:

post your stoires on writing oriented forums and websites. Leave high quality feedback on others´ pieces and they will comment your´s.

...I'm an English major. And even my friends who aren't English majors enjoy reading my writing. So I've never really had a problem with not having readers or people to give feedback. I'd say just talk to your friends, get them to look over your stuff. Online friends work just as well. If you've got friends on the Escapist, why not message them and ask them to look over some of your work?

I like to use shotguns to spread my stories, or at least a message. :p
You should probably start on forums aimed at people who would find you're writing enjoyable, and then go from there, not to say you're writing isn't already enjoyable to us. :p
Hopefully i've been of some, if limited use.
And hey!
Maybe some of us will give feedback!

Thats a good way- asks some guys you know to look it over but, say you want to get many different people to read it. Your story needs to be read by a many different people so you know it really works.

As you proboably know some people will understand the text while others will need more explaination.

Explanations?
i don't think that if you're a good author you should explain your works, everything should be there in the text.

Well, my best advice really depends on what level of schooling you're attending at the moment. I go to a major university, and there's writing clubs out the wazoo. High school level... you may have a bit more of a difficult time. But even in high school, there's usually some form of writing club. If not, you could talk to a teacher and see if you can start it yourself. Not to mention writing classes- I took a creative writing class in high school that really helped my skills. (Not as a writer, mind you- the teacher didn't really help me there, as she loved my style and never critiqued it. But it did help with the creativity, brainstorming, and plotting processes.)

And if you aren't in school... mm... I'm fresh out of advice.

Thats not it, people are different thats all.

On another note it seems my university is a odd duck that it just have political student groups.

Only political groups? Really? Huh. Well, I suppose my high school advice applies, then. Talk to an English professor, see if he/she will sponsor a writing club. That's the best way to get a lot of people to look at your work, in my opinion. And it's a little more personal and helpful than reviews on DeviantArt, because you can actually have a conversation with the person, and they can help you work through any issues that they may have noticed.

Earlier today I asked about adding a fiction / fan-fiction board to this site, considering the amount a helpful comments I got doing user reviews (and positive comments in general) I thought it might go down well. Still waiting for a reply, mind it was literally about 3 hours ago...
