I hope this is more like a massive improvement on the already sound Snowblind formula, and that it doesn't take too many cues from Dragon Age.

the lore on this page [http://www.warinthenorth.com/story/15] seems to indicate that the north refers to arnor
From that page:
Grey Mountains and the overgrown forest of Mirkwood
Which would seem to indicate at least part of the game takes place east of the Misty Mountains, i.e. not Arnor.

In regards to videogames, isn't "mature" a euphemism for sex, racism and swearing?

The Witcher is a "mature" RPG with plenty of sex, racism and swearing, but unlike LOTR, that is all present in it's original source materials it's novels, whereas LOTR might have racism, but sex and swearing would appear shoehorned in.

Or is this only "mature" in the sense that it will have a dark tone, graphic, gory violence and receive a M rating in the US.

Do they mean "Mature" mature or "Hooray immature bloodsplatters" mature?
There might be some underwear-covered sex scenes in there too, you know, just to follow up Dragon Age.

Sex, copious amounts of blood, racism and swearing.

Why not? There's swords, cave trolls, forests, and open plains. What is there to "look" like?
I didn't see any dwarves

Yeah, I'm pretty sick of developers just dropping the "M" word and then doing little more than ramping up the blood and titties, both of which would be gratuitously irrelevant in a Tolkien RPG.

I love LOTR, I really really really do. It might be one of the best fantasy settings of all time.

So, I'm very intrested in this. I just hope they keep the Tolkienish style.

/agree

So often the mature rating just means more blood. TV has already allowed more and more stuff on it that wouldn't have been on there 10, 15, 20 years ago or more. Pretty soon Mature rating wont really matter when what we have as mature a lot of times will be considered mild. More and more stuff will be thought of as ok and will take more extreme or heavy content to make it mature. What we have as mature now will be considered Teen rating, and teen will be PG-13. All in all the rating has never mattered to me, nor does it to many of us gamers I know. It matters to parents... some of them anyway.

It's the same whenever they try to "gritty up" Star Wars in the novels. Sorry, it's a universe of pulpy adventurous space opera, it makes you seem like a bit of a git when you try to make it grim and gritty (Vong War anyone?)

You'll be able to create your own fellowship to fight the forces of Sauron through online co-op play with up to three players.
Somehow, that makes me wary. This sounds a lot like an attempted replacement for the Single Player campaign... the SMOG (Slightly Multi-Player Online Game), coming soon to a console near you!

I hope that I'm just imagining things...

A mature LOTR rpg? Really? That'd be like making a "Mature" Star Wars title. LOTR isn't a "mature" franchise and I'm terrified to see what they plan to do to make it "mature" other than soaking the game in blood.
I'm not convinced you have read the books.
