We all have OCD

What I can't understand about myself, is living on my own as a single guy...

MY home is a wasteland of chaos, yet my PC, thoroughly organised, always defragged, favourites set in folders, everything in its place,clean n tidy.

Oh and in WOW, I tend to split stacks of gear so that if I'm collecting more of say, cloth, it'll go where I want it instead of into the first available slot, always sorting my bags out in flight too.

When ever someone truly offends me or I am tired of conversation, my neck twitches and I make a loud *crack* sound.

No we do not all have OCD. We all have habits. For the love of god give some respect to the suffers.

OCD is a rather strong word, or atleast in the fullblown form, which is quite crippling for everyday life.

Most people here seem to have remnants of "magical thinking" which is very common among children, eg avoid stepping on the "wrong" flagstones in order to make a wish come true or avoid something bad.

Of course that is also a component in OCD but that´s a diagnose (hence the clinically used word DISORDER).

I have OCD and its bloody annoying at times, I have to do everything twice over on alternate sides so if I stamp one foot I have to stamp the other, I have to have the same weight on both sides of my body and I can't stand certain things touching each other. So yes its annoying to have actual OCD.

TV volume has to be in multiples of five, or I get very uneasy. When there are groups of light-switches to control different lights they all have to be aligned. Even if it means going through the house in pitch black, or going up and down stairs before bed. Stepping on cracks a given. I also have to step on as many of the 'segments' of pavement as possible. Bowls and plates have to be in even piles. I usually put a bowl in the microwave when there are odd numbers clean, and it's ready there to be used when necessary. I can't stand leaving people alone in a room with my computer, or have people looking at my iPod.

I actually have clinical OCD, and it has resulted in me getting lockjaw on more than one occasion [insert joke here].

It tends to happen when I'm tired or stressed - I need to clench my teeth in sync with each syllable of my thoughts.

Less severe:

Needing to nod my head whenever a Royal Mail van goes past.

Touching something with both sides of my body in exactly the same way - i.e. left little finger taps the wall on the second knuckle, so I have to do the same with the right, in exactly the same way, otherwise I'll have to try again and then reverse so that the left touches the wall in the same way as the mistake on the right hand. This can become a nightmare when I'm in bed and I need to "even out" the touches of my neck on the pillow.

Treading on tarmac on a repaired pavement the same way/amount of times/type of tarmac for each foot.

More of a habit:

Not using cutlery with plastic handles

Luckily the symptoms are almost gone now, if things get really bad it flares up, but that's usual for most sufferers.

This isn't exactly what you were thinking of when you used the term "OCD", was it? I agree that "Habit" would have been a much better term.

If I drop something on the ground or accidentally knock something aside, I HAVE to put it back. I coulkdn't sleep if I dropped my remote down the side of the bed for fear of losing it and forgetting it was there when I awoke.

When there is something open in the room (like a door) I have to close it. I can't concentrate until that thing is closed.

If my games aren't exactly all on the left side of my shelf I have to push them to the left side. Also my games have to be in the right order (in this case from A to Z).

I have the exact same problem. I also have to end a sentence with a full stop.

I actually aim to stand on the lines - but must not be in contact with 3 tiles, it must be 4 or 2

Whenever I'm writing something, I can't stand leaving two letters ALMOST touching, but not quite, so I'll just fill in the gaps. It makes all my schoolwork look... interesting. Also, I talk in one of the most Atlas Shrugged-inspired monotones you'll ever hear.
