As Rose tried to use the turpentine on the drawing, it seemed to have little affect. As she would look at the cloth to see if any came off, Joe himself tumbles out to the portal, landing sprawled out on the floor. The portal then sparked a few times which made it look like it would burst again.

The portal however only left a small singe mark on the wall as it disappeared, which the turpentine could take care of.

Rose shielded her face with her arms instinctively as the portal started acting up again. Then she noticed it wouldn't have the same effect as the last one and lowered her guard. Then she turned to Joe as he was laying on the ground. "Joe! What's going on? Erica and I were almost killed by one of your drawings!" She said to him, crossing her arms in a stern fashion.

Joe picks himself off the ground to a sitting position as he looked back at Rose. There were bags under Joe's eyes and his voice even sounded a little distorted. "[sub]What? T-that couldn't happen...[/sub]" He said in a surprised, concerned fashion.

Rose softened a little as she noticed the state that Joe was in. "Well, one of those drawings you hop in and out of, like the one that used to be here..." Rose paused to point at the singe mark on the wall where Joe's portal used to be. "The one on top of the ship, to be specific, exploded. Frankly, I'm surprised Erica even survived at all." Her voice was less stern and more matter-of-fact.

Rose's words slowly sunk into Joe. "[sub]The portals... they... exploded...[/sub]" He stared at Rose for a while before shakily getting up. "[sub]I-I need to apologize.[/sub]" He said as he walked to the door way, stumbled for a second as he grabbed his head and then seemed to collapse. It was like he had gotten up too fast and knocked himself out because he was sick, and the blood rushed out of his head.

@Drak: It's late... Although... if we spam one of us could get 2000th page =P

Rose shook her head at Joe and picked him up, setting him down on a chair in the bridge for lack of a better place to put him.
What happened to you, Joe?
She sighed and left the bridge, then headed to her room and fell asleep.

@Zeph: Yeah it is. But doing that wouldn't be honorable, like the way of the samurai. We'll just have to concede defeat on being able to reach the 2000th page ourselves....Or having any hope of gaining the coveted powers of 70,000.
Anyways, I'm taking the Sandman express to Sleepy-town now. Bysies! [sub]In case you couldn't tell, I am extremely tired.[/sub]

Spoiler: Jania (JAY-knee-ah)

An adept in the Deimancers. Born from an aristocratic family, she wasn?t really happy sitting in a mansion all day and spent her free time exploring the abandoned parts of the deimond mines underneath Shinestone. Due to the residual Deition and her room overlooking the Deimancer academy she quickly picked up various magic techniques, and aspired to join the Deimancers from a young age. A few months before her initiation, while she was exploring the tunnels, she went into an unstable tunnel which collapsed, trapping her for 4 days. Eventually some miners heard her and dug her out. Unfortunately, the collapse had nearly crushed her left arm from the elbow down and left her with serious claustrophobia. Despite her accident she still joined the Deimancers, and, thanks to experimental healing magic, had her arm healed, though it still has scars. She joined the academy at 14, and is now 23. She is a bit of a glory hog, and not very sociable. On top of the casual racism typical of Shinestone natives, she sometimes tries to belittle her fellow students and play down their accomplishments to try and make herself stand out in the hope of being properly initiated more quickly. She is very close to becoming a full Deimancer, but she has been held back due to her harsh personality and risky, not-well-thought-out combat style. In battle, she favours a wooden staff reinforced with metal and with an indent on the grip to switch deimonds in an instant. Unlike most adepts, she prefers to use a standard close-combat style with Detion magic as an extra edge, like coating her weapon with fire or quickly moving by push herself around with air.

Spoiler: Eva Sopei (E-vah su-PIE)

An elven mercenary warrior. Typical of elves, she is quite open to new experiences, and this has led to a lot of odd jobs and unusual teams, some of them on the wrong side of the law. These black-market jobs have not affected her personality however, as she is quite upbeat and has a strong sense of justice, only taking shady jobs if they seem like they?re doing the right thing. She is a master at stealth, thievery, espionage and assassination. Her weapons of choice are two kanetsunes, but she also carries a crossbow with a scope.

Spoiler: Shinestone

The bastion of human civilization, Shinestone was originally just a small mining town. The mine was for copper, steel and other ores. There was a substantial amount of deimonds but no-one knew what they could do at the time. Once people found out about their power, demand for the crystals increased massively. Money flooded into Shinestone, transforming it into one of the riches cities in the country. It is a fairly large city, with a decent-sized castle at its centre. The city is separated into rings: the innermost contains the castle, then upper-class residential and the Deimancer academy, then middle-class residential, then a menagerie of markets and services, then lower-class living and immigrants. Nearly every person born there has some natural Deition ability due to the sheer amount of deimonds that lie under the city and are still being mined out even to this day. Despite being an extremely powerful city, it is not well liked by the rest of the country. Its authorities try to keep a stranglehold on raw deimonds, even if they are mined outside of its jurisdiction. Its citizens are very suspicious of outsiders, a degree of casual racism is common and immigration into the city is notoriously difficult.

Spoiler: Sanpoku (SAN-pu-ku)

The capital of the elves, Sanpoku is a large city built on the side the eastern-most mountain in the Spine of Sosanoh, divided into districts by rivers, tunnels, stone ridges and other natural pathways and borders. The city is hard to get to, and has never come under direct attack. Some of the richest inhabitants own entire cave systems in the mountainside, transforming them into sprawling mansions. The largest of these is the fortress of their governor.

Spoiler: Spine of Sosanoo (SUE-za-no-oh)

This small mountain ridge is one of the most contested and politically important areas in the land. According to elven legend, the ridge was formed by a battle between two warriors known as the Sosanoo and the Orche (OH-ro-chee), the impact of their weapon clashes contorting the ground into its current shape, and the abundance of ore in the ridge made from the remnants of their armour and weapons. The alleged presence of deimonds in the depths of the rock have attracted the attention of Shinestone, the mass of ore is sought after by numerous mining and smithing guilds, the elves have their capital city built into the easternmost mountain, many outlaws have fled to the upper slopes and there are rare rumours of Faul scouts. It will be many more lifetimes before any problem related to this string of stone gets a solution.

A kind of diamond that generates and stores Deition. Glows, with the strength of the glow increased depending on how much Deition is stored in that crystal.

A kind of energy that affects living creatures, allowing those affected to draw energy into themselves and objects made of deimond, then expel that energy. This can manifest as the absorption, release and manipulation of thermal, kinetic, electrical, light and sonic energy.

Several centuries ago, a small group of ships landed on the shores of the country. The origins of these ships and those that were on them have been lost to the fog of time, but one thing is well known: the people aboard these boats formed the first human colony. Humans are not native to the land, but they have since become part of it, with a moderate amount of territory. Humans are very diverse as well, with many different ethnicities and cultures due to the mixed cultures carried by the refuges on the ancient ships. Each human town has something different, though the core culture of most is tied to whatever large city they are under allegiance to.

Spoiler: Elves

Natives to the land, elves are the oldest civilisation present. Elves bear an uncanny resemblance to humans, to the point where one movement that is rapidly gaining followers posits the theory that humans are an offshoot of elves. The average elf is slimmer and taller than the average human. One characteristic unique to elves is their ears being pointed, though how pointed they are and which way they point is a matter of genetics rather than a racial constant. Elf culture is a lot more open than most others. Lies are quite rare, discrimination is almost non-existent, and most are eager to find and test things outside of what they already know on many different subjects, such as political ideology, religious belief, sexuality, entertainment, decoration, military strategy, and almost anything else, though most elves settle down in their twilight years. They are noticeable for being the only race that decides their rulers democratically. However, this openness does present a few problems. Their justice system leaves much to be desired, their military force is quite small, their diplomats and politicians tend to bend and crack quite easily, and people have taken advantage of their trust to further their own agendas. Elves that have had a taste of the rest of the world tend to either be a lot more jaded and cynical or just break down, unable to deal with the harshness of the world outside their cities. Elven design and core culture is similar to that of feudal Japan, and their capital is the city of Sanpoku.

Spoiler: Deimancers (DAY-man-sirs)

The military forces of Shinestone, Deimancers train in acrobatics, weaponry and Deition techniques, turning them into highly effective sorcerers. Some shun close-combat for mastery of Deition magic. Others focus on using Deition to supplement swordplay, hammers and other traditional weapons. Newcomers are required to relinquish their family name, and can choose a new name for themselves when they become full soldiers. The highest ranks undergo a process where they drink a special brew made of several herbs that have been sprinkled with a crushed deimond, which turns their irises white.

Spoiler: Faul (FAH-ul)

These northern barbarians are comprised of humans, but though they have the same mix of ethnicities as the humans that have contacted the other races, they have one culture, belief system and language. All attempts at peaceful contact have ended in the people involved disappearing or dying. Their stone-hewed technology and architecture, though crude in appearance, is hardy and quite complex. They routinely attack northern settlements for an unknown reason, and there is intelligence that suggests that they are building a substantial army.
