This has probably been hashed over before, but I just had a chance to play the new Shadowrun game for x360; and I'm mortified.

I played the tabletop RPG and found, in its day, that the Genesis translation actually not only did admirable justice to the Shadowrun concept but was neverendingly entertaining. Firearms, while a large part of a massive cyber-punk future, were never the main focal point of the series.

Who's with me on this?

From what I heard it was an extremely butchered, poorly put-together FPS game that completely abandoned any and all RPG elements in which the series is grounded.

I've played the SNES version of Shadowrun and thought it was alright, but bland. I've heard the SEGA version is the best, which SEGA console was it for? Megadrive? Genesis?
I've never really been that into cyber-punk for my tabletop gaming though.

The Multiplayer Shadowrun that Microsoft did wasn't horrible, in fact is was pretty fun. That being said I would like to see a Shadowrun on the current gen consoles that is more like the old one. Maybe a sandbox, Fallout 3 style RPG/shooter system.

I thought the SNES version of Shadowrun was a blast, with the exception being its crappy graphics and combat system. But yeah, I loved it to bits.

Yeah, running around shooting stuff is the wrong FASA license, chummer. I salivate at the thought of what this Bethesda/id monster or a revived Black Isle would do with Shadowrun.

It was for the genesis, and it was way, way better than the SNES version in my opinion. It was surprisingly absolutely different, I can't think of very many games that were on both the genesis and SNES that were such different releases. The genesis version wasn't on rails like the SNES one was, you could play it for years without ever getting to the end if you chose to.

Bethesda: MOAR COOL SHIT!

id software: Sorry, we have been bought out.

Black Isle: Fucked up combat, meager ending, excellent story and RPG elements.

Which is exponentially better than Microsoft's poorly-thought-out take on it.

I'd even take a Shadowrun skin for Fallout3.

Texas is pretty Fallout-y, isn't it? Or am I thinking of Rifts? I only ever played in The Sprawl. Elven Decker for life, yo.
