Well, after many attempts, years and much speculation, it looks like we're finally getting a film version of the classic sci-fi novel "Ender's Game". The child star of Martin Scorsese's upcoming movie Hugo has been offered the title role. EG is my favorite book of all time, so knowing that a movie is actively in the works makes me both happy and very apprehensive.
The choice of director, Gavin Hood ( http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004303/ ) worries me slightly, having been the man behind the pretty damn bad X-Men Origins: Wolverine. But he also directed a touching, Academy Award winning film about gang violence in South Africa. I'm conflicted on this one.
I've maintained for years that EG would be next to impossible to film, not for any technical reasons, but because finding an age appropriate actor who could portray a deep and complex character like Ender Wiggin would be about as easy as remaking The Godfather starring Taylor Lautner and Hayden Christiansen and being as good as the original.
I'm going to do the logical thing and reserve judgment, at least until more details come out. Hopefully the creative team will actually care about the story they're telling and put real work into making sure it's good.
Fellow Ender fans, what do you think about this?
