I want more games as funny and just plain fun as blood dragon. I want to see a parody of skyrim. Parodies of COD and battlefield and heavy rain and walking dead and everything.

I want more games that have rocky balboa training montages and some form of dinosaur like creature. More games with lasers and neon everywhere. More games with the sense to just go all out on fun and not care about how much hollywood gives a shit.

I want to see terminator DLC on GTA. Monster Truck DLC on forza or flatout. Back To The Future in Driver San Francisco.

It's nice that heavy rain and walking dead and other story games like that are gaining gaming legitimacy in the eyes of hollywood (whatever that does), but I want more games that aren't afraid to be games. More games that slather me in that delicious, delicious cheese.

More blood dragons. Who's with me?

Ehhhh... kinda?

To me it feels like most games are already like that, but they just don't know it. I mean, have you ever watched, I mean really watched, a Gears of War cutscene?

But yeah, it is nice to see a game that is openly goofy with zero pretensions at being anything more. My favourite example of such is Bulletstorm.

However, personally I'd happily trade away all the goofy Blood Dragons in the world for some more Walking Dead-calibre content.

Well if every game was Blood Dragon, then you know... every game would be Blood Dragon, and nothing would be all that different to now.

Then we would have to make ironic parodies of ironic parodies. And I don't think I can handle more self referential irony from the gaming scene right now. Think I've had my dose of that.

Gear's cutscenes started out rather laughably bad. They got better as the series progressed however, and Judgement actually has some well-directed ones to go with its somewhat nonlinear narrative. I think the dialogue is still pretty damn cheesy though, especially in the first one where they used the word "shit" as pretty much a universal remote for the english language.

Now, I agree OP, but in a different sense: I want to see more little games like Blood Dragon built with high-class game engines. I want to see more of these cheaper passion projects like Blood Dragon, and Alan Wake's American Nightmare, that use all of these cool tools to bring something different to the table than the Grey-Brown Shooter #9104 that has been focus-tested to oblivion. More niche titles to satisfy different needs rather than the generic everything game for everyone.

Isnt Call of duty naturally a parody because of all the stereotype cliche with bad terrorists/communists and the gun hoe American bravado? Its laughable on its own to be honest.

the game I mentioned also in another post Van Helsing does a great job of making fun of other rpg's. I should also mention a lot of games do this from Mass effect having the space hamster from baldurs gate series to the Sacred Series and Bethesda series with the whole sweetroll joke. You just got to know where to look.

But if your looking for serious cheese, I can suggest maybe googleing the game Dont crap your pants (a survival horror game). OR there was this super old game I forget the name ago eons ago called KILL BARNEY and you basicly are a sprite shooting hordes of barneys as the world has been taken over by pink dinosaurs.

Huh? I´ve the feeling that the cutscenes were getting worse with the progress of the franchise. The more Epic tried to put emotional content into them the sillier they got. The favorite example of mine was the Dom/Maria scene. I was starring in disbelief at the screen when it happened and then started laughing. What i`ve seen from the third GoW didn`t look any better (or maybe it did if you`re into parodies of this kind). Maybe i`m a bit unfair towards GoW since i haven`t seen anything from Judgement. Regardless of the senseless swearing i liked the straightforwardness of the first most.

OP
Yes, i want more, it doesn`t have to be all neon, but give me more games like Bulletstorm or Blooddragon. Hell, i would even take a look at a new Duke Nukem. Let the eighties action hero vibe roll with all the cliches, i`ll buy it. I still have to get Gunslinger (not exactly what was meant with this thread i guess) and i hope that the ShadowWarrior reboot turns out to be good.

Don't get me wrong, I want you story guys to be satisfied too. Because gaming should be for everyone.

I never got a gears of war game because the first one I rented resulted in a controller with a broken left bumper that eventually got replaced. I wasn't used to cover based shooting and well, it's like that time I ate baby carrots and that other time I ate chicken as a child and gag-vomited both times. I just can't get into gears of war now.

The thing is, and this is not telltale's fault, once again the gaming industry has not taken the message that good writing makes good games. They're going even stronger for the hollywood actors and the grimdark bullshit that's EVERYWHERE now.

I truly want more walking deads and heavy rains too, if only because it keeps you guys satisfied. But I also want more games suited to my tastes too.

I guess more variety dosnt hurts.

That begin said... Stick with new IP for this. Doing this to an actual franchine is a no.

I want more FC3: Blood Dragon-esque games as well but for a slightly different reason.

What I want is more games that come from developers who made what they really wanted to make. Games that obviously have themes/gameplay/etc that are very very clearly close to the hearts of the developer. It makes for properly passionate projects and ultimately I think that that really improves a game's quality.

I don't want every game to be blood dragon, I just want more games like blood dragon. More does not equal every.

While I agree with the idea that "more games centered around being fun, enjoyable experiences that make us laugh/swear/panic in good ways" would be awesome. The sad fact of the matter is, Everyone right now looks at Call of Duty, see's it hits a billion dollars in sales and says "that's what I want." This is inherently not a bad thing, but to paraphrase Jim Sterling from his last episode "I already have Call of Duty, so I don't want another Call of Duty game."

Mass Effect wasn't like Call of Duty and it did well, but as the series progressed you saw it be "streamlined" (as they like to say) to get a broader audience. Same could be said about many of the series which have 2-3 games to them (Gears of War is a prime example as well). Publishers need to learn/understand/figure out that Call of Duty makes the money it does because of the game type it does - Easy to understand/learn, easy to become good at it, hard to master it (competitive level). Its the same thing with World of WarCraft, your top 5% of the game is where everything is ultra hard, the rest of it is fairly "meh" in terms of difficulty, and this a 6-8 million user base.

While Publishers are there to make money for their stockholders (which is really their job) the notion of "Quality in = Quality out" seems to be lost on many of them. If EA had made Mass Effect 3 with the same quality of ME1 think of the difference in reception that game would have gotten and how much of a positive effect that would have had for them (and by proxy the developer).

*shrug* What can you do though, as the consumer you can write in, talk about it on the forums of your respective visited sites and use your wallet to not purchase something. If games degrade to a state where they are losing big money, they will stop making them/close down shop and cling onto their "call of duty style" shooter and see how poorly that will sustain them (unless it actually happens to be Call of Duty...

Wow, this was long. The TL:DR version, Publishers are trying to make money, but don't understand that poor quality = poor reception to the product they are putting out.

Well, I think the whole charm of FC3:Blood Dragon was that the developers were just dicking around with the engine and someone came and looked at what they were doing and was like this is pretty good lets sell it. It originally wasnt meant to see the light of day and was just a bit of a project of boredom that just turned out to be good. If they actually tried to make Blood Dragon like it was with the intent of selling it I doubt it would have been half as good.

I really want more games developed in Blood Dragon style, e.g. cheaper stand-alone games that use pre-existing assets. For example, give me stand-alone Call of Duty zombies, or some different style, smaller scale RPG based on Skyrim.

Wasn't Heavy Rain already a parody? :p

I would disagree. One of the reasons that Blood Dragon was awesome was because it was so different from all the other games that came out recently (Tomb Raider, Infinite, Dishonoured). It was refreshing. If we have more games like it, it would lose a lot of its charm.

I want more Undead Nightmare type DLC. If only that rumored UFO DLC for LA Noire was real...that would've been fuck awesome.
Don't worry, the X-COM shooter will be out soon. That's basically the same thing right?

Ya, I want more DLC to be like Blood Dragon and stand-alone too. I didn't plan on buying Farcry 3 until after I played Blood Dragon which I chose to buy because it was fair priced and looked awesome. Farcry 3 looked awesome as well, but I didn't think it'd be worth $60. But after all the fun I had with the basic gameplay elements of Blood Dragon, I decided to buy Farcry 3. And I don't see why publishers try that out more with new IP's like that. Just to test the waters, and then they can decide to make a franchise into s larger scale project.

If every game was like Blood Dragon, BD wouldn't be special. I think it's good to have a rare 'parody' ( I say that for want of a better word) but mainly if you want to do humour, make something funny. The thing that turns me off 'parodies' is when they seem to be trying too hard to be funny. BD didn't seem like it was making fun of 80s culture, it seemed like it was made as a fond tribute to it.

But it worked well in Mass Effect, as the narrowing universe and improving gameplay reflected Shep's quest, as the Reapers and other things cut off his assets one by one and the universe really did shrink, and also his skills got better as he became a hardened solder/biotic/whatever. Without 3's amazing gameplay, I wouldn't like the series half as much as I do. Off topic though, oops.

Want, not need. Games aren't a need...but eh..fine.

I kinda agree...
What we really "need" in gaming I think are two things:

1) We "need" a broader variety of games, or at least styles if that isn't feasible.
Games are becoming far too homogenous outside of the indie scene.
(and even there exist problems; how many low-budget shitty "zombie" games are there now?)

2) We "need" games that play like the person who made them gave a fuck. Beyond a paycheck or contractual obligation.

Blood Dragon does both of those for the most part.
It's still a shooter, yeah, but that FITS the cheesy 80s machismo action-film genre it's parroting.
