I've noticed as gamers, we are really quick to complain about stuff, wah there is mild collision detection, wah pc's beat consoles tards!, wah there is a mild plot hole in the game let me spam forums forever!!! I was talking to my sister the other day about how I need to buy a psp for khbbs, and she just started sighing, I thought something was wrong at first so I asked her about it, and she was like every time you talk about videogames you're complaining, and That got me thinking, every one of my gaming friends nearly every time we talk about videogames we are plagued with complaints and this just makes me sad, because while western culture has promoted the ideals of me me me, and I want it all, but I think we as gamer in reference to gaming whine the most in all of culture, (not including whining, about The U.S. government/gwb) and this is sad. Do you guys agree?

A lot of the time, when people make just criticisms, other accuse them of whining because they can't come up with suitable comebacks.

Meh I feel like I'm a very tolerant person ragarding flaws in games. Although I agree our standards my have become a little high, the possibilities of what can be achieved within videogames has also become a lot more. Ofcourse people will always like to nitpick, because if everything was perfect in the game we wouldn't have anything to complain about. And let's face it: humans love complaining.
Even you're doing it right now. You're complaining about how we complain too much.

My point is without complaints there is no real criticism and tangible feedback for the developers. How much I regret to say this the little whiny bastards on internet forums who are complaining to some kind of company that their HUD is a piece of shit actually help these developers spot the flaws in their product so they'll hopefully not make that mistake again.

Also, like, I don't like, like people who use like in sentences wherein it like, totally doesn't make sense. Like, you know what I mean? Oh my GOD. [/barbie]

we do whine a lot :D just take a look at any forum on any web page "including la escapist"
I don't now why, maybe it has something to do with how much we compare one game to another, especially when we compare different game scores.

Will, this become an intelligent discussion?

OR
will grammar Nazi's and self-righteous fanatics turn us once again to a wasted post.

find out next episode!

Gamers in general are a whiny lot. They are comparable to Star Wars fans, in that Star Wars fans generally hate the Star Wars movies.

I read an article a while back where the guys who made that Kane and Lynch game were interviewed about how it felt to watch the gaming community crucify something that they had worked so hard and so long on. I think it was Gamesradar, or maybe Kotaku. I'll try and dig it up.

The gaming community also has this weird fixation on "innovation", and they are really picky about what they apply this to. The Halo series has been blamed for not innovating enough, while the Half-Life episodes get off free, even though the gameplay has not changed at all since 2004. That said, it is nice when something comes along and mixes things up, like Portal.

You'll find that those who whine and grumble tend to be gamers whose first console didn't have 3D graphics. People whose priorities aren't realistic graphics and regenerating health. Fellows who recognise games as being far shorter and much easier then they used to be. Colleagues who find it increasingly hard to find a decent challenge out there, and who deplore the rise of the headset mic. Friends who remember a better time, when games challenged you and made you break your controller in frustration. Who used to punch the air and bless the day they finished a game, rather then breath a sigh of relief that they can now play something better. Who never had to wait around for a game to be patched, safe in the knowledge that when they ran it, it would play perfectly right out of the box. Who work long hours and pull in a decent wage which allows them to buy more then one game a month, unchallenged by clerks who no longer need to ask them if they're old enough to play this title - if they even bother to check the rating at all. Who remember a golden era, when everything was just plain better and casual gamers didn't exist. Why can we not go back to such a wonderful, wonderful time? WHY? IT'S WITHIN OUR POWER! ALL WE NEED DO IS STAND UP AND DEMAND IT! OUR VOICES WILL BE HEARD, FOR THEY SHALL ALL SAY THE SAME THING! GAMES USED TO BE BETTER!

Uh.. what's wrong with being a casual gamer? Gaming wasn't much different back then as it's now. Whining isn't going to solve anything. Supporting things will.
Christ, I'm fed up with having to put [/sarcasm] at the end of everything I type. Surely the rampant over-the-top style of my rant was enough to clue you in that I wasn't being serious.
