Lets face it, these are dark times we find ourselves in and while not constant threats to us and our homes and families are out there and we could easily find ourselves facing them at any time. But inspite of this fact I rest easy knowing that I've got a revolver at my hip when Im out and a shotgun within reach when Im at home.

And that brings me to my question to all of you what are your prefered weapons for home defense and self defense?

Before anything comes up though, just know that I will not have this topic devolve into an argument about gun control/the 2nd amendment.

A classic:

2 1/2 inch .410 shotgun shells are actually great for home/self defense, particularly when you custom-load them for that purpose.

M4A1 Carbine

Edit: That was for games. Did not read. When I turn 21 in 2 months, I plan on getting my concealed carry license and a pistol.

The baseball bat. Sturdy, doesn't require cleaning to function, no ammunition, easy to use, easy to replace when and if the time comes, and it's simply an American classic.

I just stick with one of many kitchen knives. Not the most practical or preferable, but they'll do in a pinch.

I never carry a weapon on me, as it's illegal and stupid (over here) to do so in Australia. But I've got my combat knife in a cupboard at the head of my bed in my uni accomadation and a 5.56 pump action rifle with a couple of spare magazines at home.

My guitar :p.

Bash the intruders head in and then rock out over his limp body. Then call the police. ;)

there is no need for it, but how else are you going to keep tanks at bay if the need arises?

I figured I'd get alittle more specific with my own answers since you folks are naming specific makes and modles and providing pictures.

So heres the Shotgun....a Mossberg 500:

and heres the pistol a simple but effective Beretta:

I tend to view people who keep weapons in their home for defence people who are really paranoid or just trying to act cool with their "sweet-as" gun. My friend always goes on about how he has a pistol in his garage or something and I just always ignore him.

Of course, the neighbourhood/area i live in has a very small crime rate, so not really that much danger. If you lived in a very criminally active area, by all means a weapon is justified.

Why would I need a weapon? In my neighborhood you can leave a bike on your lawn then go on vacation for a week and it will still be there, possibly washed and tuned up.
Anyways, since handguns are illegal in my country, and long guns are difficult to acquire I would go with my trusty machete destruction, a 65cm long razor sharp bush clearing machine (or in this case flesh). It can cleanly cut through a 5cm tree limb, so an arm or a leg is not a problem. Or my USN Mk 3 MOD 0 dive knife, the predecessor to the Ka-bar 2000, or my hatchet, which I use camping.
I actually keep all three along with my other knives and tools in a drawer in my bedroom.

while I apreciate the response...I wasn't asking for opinions on people who do have them in thier homes and at thier sides. Im looking for answers to my question in the OP...you could simply state that you don't and why you don't
