This is a good question, there are a lot of awesome weapons...

I guess a gun that conjures rabid squirrels to nibble upon my foes

I'm pretty sure that was already in Oddworld.

Well, for a vehicle weapon, I'm a huge fan of Robot Wars, and the two most effective weapons in the history of that show are hydraulic flipper type things, and fly wheels.
I disagree

And so does he!

OT:A rail gun, gotta go with that, or a massive chain gun of some sort...though a flame thrower wouldn't be bad.
Razer was good, but his weapon was too slow working to deal with the faster bots. He was AWESOME though.
Well, he made it through to the grand final of the last series, so he can't have been that bad. He lost that final thanks to the guys controlling Tornado being a bunch of cheating dicks. They stuck a load of scaffolding on the side so it wouldn't fit in the pit properly.
Razor, Chaos 2, and Hypnodisk were definitely the creme-de-la-creme of Robot Wars.

How about variation on the flame thrower? Everyone likes lightin' folk on fire, but it's equally fun to hose people down with caustic fluids (which may be good against vehicles as well?) or say... pressurized liquid oxygen. Hit 'em with a blast, and then then throw a flare at them. It's like a flamethrower but with more giggles! (and would be WILDLY dangerous to use, but c'mon... Danger = fun.) Would only be REALLY fun if it had the chance of backfiring on whoever was using it. For example, you're spraying someone down with an EXTREMELY Volatile liquid (which just as quickly vaporizes), when say, someone throws a flare at YOU, or even someone fires a gun too close to either one of you.

Giggles ensue. Good times.

i actually read an interview where a guy said that while he was playing there was a bandit that came over a hill with flames spouting out from every pore in his body, apparently it was some type of fancy alien flamethrower. Sounds fun.

Is that a shoe?!

Edit: Also, we need a chainsaw launcher.

Well, how about that thing from No Country for Old Men or whatever it's called? The Pneumatic spike? Be an interesting somewhat sneaky weapon.

Uhm, doubt it would get much use, but the underwater AKs could be entertaining.

All good post apocalyptic games need improvised explosives.

Ned Kelly's armor would also be pretty damned awesome. Especially since most reloaded ammunition at this point, as well as the majority of hand made (not scavanged, which would be dwindling, at least in my mind) would be back to using soft-lead, so Ned Kelly's armor would be effective again. Ya know, Kinda.

there are so many thousands of knives in the world, it'd be remiss to leave them out, though for specific styles, I've got no suggestions at the moment.

This is less a weapon, more an ammunition I suppose, but harddrive componoents. There's a lot of heavy chunks of metal that would be pretty damned wicked if thrown hard enough, or fired from a sling.

Also: Canned food. Canned food is a VERY good improvised weapon.

Here's a cookie for mentioning Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath.

Also, they're not squirrels; they're Fuzzles... And they're awesome. However, there were squirrels as well, they were used as decoys... Sort of.
