i second this, the last game i can remember using katars is Diablo 2...
unless you count the Beam "Sword" from Halo 3 as a katar, and why not seeing as it IS a katar and not a sword.

A gun that fires genital-seeking boots directly, and unerringly, at enemy crotches. Even enemy tentacle beasts and robots. Nothing is as debilitating as the groin kick. A rocket-propelled one, more so.

Give it time DA:O has a talent that allows you to kick the enemy in the nuts (called below the belt). Bioware has opened the door so we should see groin-seeking missiles soon enough.
