So an old friend of mine that I havnt talked to in about half a year just called me just as I was about to fall asleep telling me about a perfect circle around the moon which obviously meant there is a ufo and aliens are about to attack. To me it looked like a fucking cloud and he can fuck off but then he went on about how Russians are controlling the weather.

This on the other hand I can get behind because it is absolutely balls out crazy. Just thought I would share considering now I am wide awake...

Cool, they should spray something to make it rain over our catchments here in Aus so we can have some water for once. It seems like an interesting idea, I wonder if it'll work?

I have no idea. When I was reading it I didnt believe it but at the same time it all seems like it could most certainly work. It reminded me of the cold war and brought that inkling of hope that one day that future we thought about in the 50's might actually be a reality before we all kill eachother.

At the same time he was also saying that apparently someone tried this before and caused a flood so I dont really know.

It also reminded me of some Bond flick with one super rich guy controlling the weather whom would pour snow on florida or something.

Can it work? Yes.

Will it happen? No. And certainly not in Russia. They have neither the money nor tools to make it happen. Do they realize how many tons of chemical it would take to drain all the moisture from clouds bound for Moscow? It's several orders of magnitude cheaper to just to use traditional road clearing methods.

I seem to recall the Chinese using a similar trick to make it rain before the opening ceremony of the Olympic games so it wouldn't interefere with them, so it must be at least theoretically possible to do.

A dam basically, an area where water is held so it can be used by people. Melbournes largest dam/catchment is the Thompson, at the moment our water supply is 34% full (roughly) across all of our catchments, hence why we need rain or some other way to get water.
