You know the type. The ones that hang around above, below and side to side the content of the website. Waiting... Just waiting... And once you accidentally click on them, the primitive part of your mind screams and makes you click the tab off.

I have never seen a forum without them. The Escapist ones aren't too jarring, and are usually just merch adverts, but some forums...

Look, let me explain some of the adverts I have seen.

Could you be a vampire?

What is your IQ?

New Steampunk Manga MMMORG FREE!

And so on.

Look, I have literally no idea what this entail and what they were. My mind simply cannot take the idea of giving into actually trying these out, even if they look legit. I think it's a survival mechanism. Anyway, when have you ever clicked on one of these and checked it out? Explain what happened, and tell us if it is good or bad.

No, because a good 99% of the time I have no interest in what is being advertised.

I did once, by accident. It was one of those "Hot Singles in your Area" ones. It pulled up the promised website, but my fear inspired me to unplug my computer immediately.

Thanks to the Adblock Plus add-on, I don't even see most ads. Never clicked on them even when I saw them.

I know not these ads you speak of, thanks to NoScript and Ad Block Plus.

EDIT: Damn, Ninja'd by the Devil.

I've never succumbed to the temptations of a banner ad. Indeed, it's been a good year or so since I've even had to see one, thanks to Ad-Block. I'm aware that it's rather selfish of me to deny The Escapist and other websites ad revenue by blocking those ads... But I'd feel worse about it if the ads were actually relevant to my interests.

I've got an ad running myself on facebook for a questionnaire I'm trying to gather responses for. Current stats: 212,578 impressions, 68 clicks and about 10 completions. Chearly some people do, even though my ad looks iffy at best. Facebook reviews every ad so there is a degree of trust there.

It such a cheap medium to advertise that anyone can do it.

My questionnaire link is in my profile if anyone cares. I won't post the link on the actual forum though. I know the rules

P.S. Advertising is paid for media!!!!

No, of course not on purpose. Although I hate how much more meschivious they're getting. I went to download a patch for a real old game I like, and I clicked "Download" , only to be briefly confused by a "FREE LOBSTAR DINNER OMG OMG OMG" .

I've clicked a few ACCIDENTALY.
Otherwise I usually stay the hell away.
But that was all before I got adblocker for Firefox.
Now I never have to see those ads ever again /dreamyvoice.

I have accidentaly clicked a few in the past.

One opened up about, oh say... 5 different windows,s one of which kept reopening when you closed it 10 times.

I hate Web Ads, they make me feel less like buying the product, especially if they can talk.
