yeah sorry if this isn't the place for trivial questions, but i hope i get a helpful response regardless. so, i told my friend who owns a restaurant that i starting learning html for website making, and he asked me to make him a rudimentary website for his restaurant. that's obviously not asking much, i still need to read up on css, but i can code html and js np. the thing is, he wants a blog so ppl can write their comments about the food etc., and i don't know even know where to start learning about how to do that. could someone post a link or give me a simple summary of what i should read up on next? do i need to know sever-side scripting like ajax or php? is blogging done with a separate software extension that ill have to download? thanks

Hmm...

http://www.w3schools.com/ should have it somewhere. Look around, that's a great website.

It might be easier to get it hosted on a blogging site. It would certainly save the effort. That way, you could link it to a separate site.

If you want to build the blog from scratch, I would guess you'd have to learn Php.

If you want it all integrated into the site, without learning Php which would be better in the long run but might take a while to learn, there should be a way to have an RSS feed on your site of another blogs site.

So he updates it all from the blogs website, which in turn auto updates the site you created which just takes the feed off of the blog site.

It will be much more limited, but it is a temporary solution, and seeing as you can already use javascript will be much quicker for you to do than learning php.

I haven't actually ever made that setup, so this is just in theory but it seems very possible to me and wouldn't be too difficult. It would also come with a user friendly UI for your client to use.

You may want to look into CMS-based solutions, such as Wordpress.
Programming your own blog isn't recommended if you don't have any experience, but there's plenty of tools out there to create a nice-looking site, without having to worry about a lot of aspects.

If your in a rush, use Webs.com or Wix.com. - You can put a website together with everything you need there, either for free or make it awesome by paying for it.

If you have all the time in the world, learn PHP and MySQL like generic gamer suggests, and start a website from scratch.

I helped make this website ( http://www.elachirestaurant.com ). Specifically the menu section. Talk about mind numbing, I don't even like indian food. Because I know practically nothnig about Flash, but wanted a totally flash site, I used Wix to make www.RobertToseland.co.uk.

P.S

HTML FTW. Love style sheets!
