So my imagination has been rather active as of late. So I've been piecing together two to three stories in my head. I have a ton more in there but these are just the newer ones.

The bulk of the changes to this one was literally within the past 24 hours.
The setting is a normal city, probably set more on the outskirts of the city where there would be larger parks, housing, and schools. The main "protagonist" around which the main events of the story are carried out is a female college freshman. However most of the actual action of the story centers around her recently deceased brother (Only a few years older than her) who hangs around as a ghost. Early story would focus on them, probably a few "can she see him or not" gags before moving on to include a bunch more spirits, legends, and cryptozoological creatures. The girl somehow gets caught up in some event that makes her a target for these creatures and her brother and his new friends protect her, though that might change at least a little. A bit to stereotypical for my tastes.

Some of the inspiration originally came from Skin Deep but a lot just came from random sources: Short stories, anime, music (a lot from music).

Originally my idea was for a lot more cryptids and legendary creatures(main character's family was of criptid origin, brother was alive and could transform between human and monster, but the sister was unaware) but my idea was way to much like Skin Deep for my liking. Ya know when you have that great idea then you run across something that takes that idea and runs with it. That was my feeling when I found that comic (also Avatar: the Last Airbender... Took three years of my imagination at work and slapped a mental cease and desist on it... I'm still reworking that one.)

This one has a vastly different setting and to be honest most of what I have is just the setting. What little story I have is more wide spread with a lot of traveling. The continent on which this story takes place is composed of a large desert covering most of the east and center with a strip of more Mediterranean climate on the western and southern coast. A mountain range separates the Mediterranean area from the arid desert. Despite the desert tag the temperature itself is not unbearable, the main problem is that the storm systems that would bring rain are mostly blocked by the aforementioned mountains. The main source of water for the desert is glacial melt that create many small rivers down the mountain before merging into one main river that cuts a horizontal path through the middle of the desert. Much of the life in the desert is focused along the river. However one more vital resource exists. A natural source of energy [footnote]you do not know how hard it is to make up a 'magical' source of energy when you have taken several classes that focused only on energy and its applications[/footnote] known as a lay line. From this line, which cuts across the continent from north to south and branches off in smaller 'streams', vast amounts of energy can be drawn. Some plants have adapted to draw from this energy and a certain type through some mumbo jumbo means I don't have quite down yet imparts it into the mineral rich ground it grows on. Some of the minerals, gain a kind of luminescence when in the lay lines energy field and are used as a cheap lighting source. Other minerals can release the energy as heat under the right circumstances. With tinkering the energy release could be controlled and ushered in a 'magic' based industrial revolution. With this advantage the discovery of gunpowder, which did happen, brought little change though it was quickly adopted by those who lived far off the lay line.

Most civilization exists either on the intersection of the lay line and the major river, on the coast of the desert lake that the river fees, or on the west coast which has little to no lay line energy. There are also small isolated towns and tribes that exist out further in the desert around oasises... oasis... around springs and/or other resources.

So yea, don't have much of a story for this one, I have a few ideas about some conflicts such as the smaller 'offline' civilizations having a small war with the 'online' ones, perhaps some cultures are being pushed out of the energy rich areas as the population expands? Characters will probably be attached to either a military or mercenary group just so there is a reason for action wherever they are. Characters will also probably be quirky. So far I have two characters who are biologically able to draw energy from the lay line (MAGIC!). One is a 'healer' who gains a religious following as word of her deeds are spread around. The other ones skills are more destructive (yea going Red Oni, Blue Oni here)but gains some physical ailments such as splitting migraines and muscle spasms when he is near the lay line. These two will probably have their stories connected but be part of different, not opposing, forces. The girl will probably be her own force with her religious posse while the guy is part of the mercenary/military group. Like their forces I don't plan on the two having some unexplainable and unnecessary hatred of one another. Probably a past (possibly familial) history but nothing drawing from overused tropes.

... Ok I had more story than I though I did. This one has been in my head for at least two weeks so I have had time to toss some ideas around. Inspiration really came from no specific place. Maybe a little Trigun as far as the desert setting goes and a little bit of The Darkness (a book series not the game) as far as lay lines go.

Anyway I am eventually planing on doing something with these, probably a webcomic once my art skills improve or a short story once my writing skills do the same.

That said, I won't say no to someone else using them (Copying, tweaking, ripping apart and stitching back together). If anyone does use them just point me to whatever work you do. I am more into creating the worlds and characters than anything else and they are far more likely to come to life by someone else's hand than my own.

So, any feedback, suggestions (characters, plots, themes, locations, creatures?). Or do you want to post your own ideas?

Yay, I love creativity. I like writing trashy goth stories myself.

The danger of the first one is your character ending up too Mary Sue-ish. I run all my characters through the "Mary sue Litmus test" that can be found online (yes, I write about trashy Goth characters that are NOT Mary sues, it does sound like something of an oxymoron but I can pull it off)

The second one sounds much more interesting but you will need some wicked artsy skills to pull it off. It will be fun though because you can create your own culture and language. You just need a protagonist. The danger with this one is that it could get a little environmental or preachy.

Water has a lot of connotations with death eg river of the dead, the oreman etc, so you could put both ideas together using the water and some Greek mythology thrown in there.

Ah, my own stories are tempered with years of Shonen based writings and animations as well as shades of grey morality. If I had the time I would write down the some of my older and more refined plots.

Anyways, The first one is still relatively new, characters have been in my head less than 24 hours. I see how the girl seems Mary Sue-ish from my description. I don't plan on making the girl protagonist a "fix-it-all/world revolves around me" person. My view is more like someone who is completely unaware that they are important in some way, someone who can and will be knocked around with no idea what is going on. Maybe have her important for one story arc just to get her involved with the paranormal aspects in some way (Possession, magic maguffin, chosen sacrifice, ect. Probably will come up with something interesting.). Mostly I just want a good reason for her to still be relevant to the story without having to tether her brother to her... though that could work too.

I like the greek mythos idea. Loved learning about that in class. Protagonist will probably be the second character I talked about. At the moment he is kind of a stereotypical antihero but I don't plan on writing him that way. Gotta keep myself from giving him godlike powers though, that does tend to be one of my weak points. One of my earliest stories had a character who was powerful enough to take on entire fleets of airships on his own... and he was one of 3 characters of that level... on that particular side of the conflict. Kinda dialed that one down, split the story, removed/ merged characters. Lots of fun.

Protagonist, yeah by all means tone him down. If he is too powerful then there is no conflict or interest and we have another Gary Stu, which will make the internet cry. People like to read about dysfunctional losers, because we can all relate to being that loser. Hence the reason why Bulk and Skull have remained in our hearts long after we forgot the words to, "Go go power rangers".
