So for about a month now, I'm having a lot of pain in my lower back on a daily basis. It almost feels as if my spinal cord is out of place. I've tried resting it (it mellows down, but doesn't go away) and I've tried some stretches, but nothing really seems to be working.

I don't really want to see a doctor, so is there anything I could do?

Mask it with advil back and body but that won't fix something that could be serious. If it doesn't go away in the near future a docter would be the best idea.

See a doctor.

Seriously, not seeing one and going by what we suggest is probably the worst thing you could do. You screw up your back, you're in trouble.

Yeah, I support seeing a Doctor, or at least soliciting advice from neighbors, friends, or family members that know you, and somehow are connected to the medical profession...that's what I do.

But since you asked for my absolutely uneducated (about medicine in general) and uninformed (about you in particular) advice, here's what I have. I get some back and neck pain from time to time, mostly as a result of a bad family history, and a bit of scoliosis. For me I have a lot less problems with everything in my body (disease, stiff necks, rolled ankles) when I'm exercising regularly. Perhaps this has no bearing on your situation, but I just thought I'd throw it out there. Find a friend, make a schedule, and get out there and do some cardio....or lift weights...or play some sports.... Whatever you can stick with long enough to make a difference.

Everybody's different...just my 2 cents

You should really go see a doctor. As Aylaine said, messing up your back is a huge problem in the long term.

See a doctor, not a chiropractor. It has been proven that some of a chiropractors "adjustments" can severely damage the spinal nerves if a condition such as a pinched nerve exists.

See a doctor then a properly trained physiotherapist.

Also, about 80% of back problems heal on their own.

You could skip the doctor and go straight to the physio, the last two times I hurt my back the doctor simply referred me on anyway.
From a minor home remedy side, if its muscle pain you can use heat pads, heat gel or massage therapy. If its strained then rest can help. If its environmental (poorly designed chair, standing for long periods etc) then noting and changing the root cause can help.

Back pain. I would suggest getting into physical therapy. If the your disc slipped, that's a different case and you should see a doctor about that. If it is muscle pain, stretch, heat, and some light lifting with an emphasis on motion.

You should definitely see a Doctor (and not just a Chiropractor or Physiotherapist), because lower back pain can also be a symptom of problem with your kidneys or liver, not just your back.

I have a friend who used to get chronic pain in his lower back every morning after drinking, he thought it was due to an old back injury that he must have aggravated during the night, but in fact it was his liver dying. If he had got that diagnosed sooner, he would be a lot healthier now, especially since he often drank alcohol to try and numb his 'back pain'.

I can offer a bit of advise as I'm a trained RMT, though that does still put me -miles- behind the training of a qualified health professional.

As you've said your feeling this pain in / around the cord area, a doctor would be preferable.

Though out of curiosity, are you doing anything repetitive with your lower back in term's of action / posture?

Was there any specific event that triggered the back pain?

And are there specific times in the day that your back hurts more? (e.g having just woken up, or at the end of the day)

Other advice:
Resting posture, if your resting on your back a comfortable position should be to bring your feet up beneath you to what ever distance is comfortable, so they are flat to what ever surface you are lying upon.

Picture here if trouble visualising:

Edit: Of course if you find this posture worsens /aggravates the pain do not repeat.

Stretches only really assist if it's a muscular problem (so ascertaining if it is muscle or bone is helpful though there's no easy way to do that).

Lol, I thought the title was Weird Black Problems when I clicked on it. I was like, oh, I better check this out and comment before it locks. Now I am thuroughly disappointed....

Anyways, it could be a number of things. Pinched nerve, pulled muscle, slipped disk. If you don't want to go to an actual MD go to a chiropractor. If you live in the USA then it's usually cheaper then a doctor or an ER visit. But don;t wait too long, or it could become a real problem.

Also... didn't you quit the escapsit?
