And I woke up once in a terror so complete, I was unable to shake the fear for five whole minutes....and I have no idea what it was I was terrified of.
And then I had this nightmare where this witch (not the ugly kind, the hot kind, that seduce people before unleashing hell), murdered someone in front of me, then made us switch bodies and mind controlled me...And then the authorities burst in on the scene. ...I was then put on trial for HER crimes, and then taken to my death. ....And it was not pleasant. I woke up mere seconds before I would have died. Being in a totally foreign body, with no control over my fate as a crowd chanted for my (well, the witch's) death...Yeah, not fun. REAAAAAALLY not fun.
Still, OP's nightmare was....oh gosh that's just scary. I would not be able to deal with that...Terrifying. ....Also, he's a bit of a douche for leaving the girl down there while he ran to escape....but really, I don't blame him. Not one bit. When confronted by terror of the highest order, all laws, rules, and logic go out the window.
....Also by "I saw 'mine'", you mean the person you'd recognize, who would then pounce on you and murder the living daylights out of you?
I had a dream....that I woke up. Went to go get breakfast, then woke up (for real this time...I think). Didn't feel like getting up, so drifted back to sleep. Then I kept "waking up", and either moving about until I suddenly "woke up" again, or just drifted off again. In other words, I was asleep and dreaming throughout, but I kept shifting between layers of dream. And each time I "woke up", I knew how many times it had been, and the places I had just dreamt, but I couldn't remember where I had actually recently been in life, and thus couldn't figure out if where I was, was actually where I was, or if I just thought so but was still asleep. I woke up in pretty much every bed I've spent over a month in, but just couldn't tell whether I'd woken up from a series of dreams, or moved to another one.
At some point, I woke up, and realized "No wait, Oregon, THIS is where I went to bed last night". Suddenly woke up again, found myself in Alaska, realized the colors were more vivid and that I must've been ACTUALLY awake this time. Not willing to let myself fall back in that cycle, I flung myself off my bed onto the floor, to insure that I didn't fall back asleep. It was close enough to daytime anyway.
The whole thing was a rather trippy meta-dream.
At some point, I woke up, and realized "No wait, Oregon, THIS is where I went to bed last night". Suddenly woke up again, found myself in Alaska, realized the colors were more vivid and that I must've been ACTUALLY awake this time. Not willing to let myself fall back in that cycle, I flung myself off my bed onto the floor, to insure that I didn't fall back asleep. It was close enough to daytime anyway.

At one point, about a year ago, I fell asleep in one of my college class's lectures. I promptly dreamed that I had been captured by some nebulous evil organization. They were torturing me for information, had me strapped down to a chair, and were supplying me with stimulants to keep me awake while they tore my skin off.
Needless to say, I woke up with a start fairly quickly, my heart rate going a mile a minute, and my breathing going just about as fast. I literally had wrapped my arms around myself, trying to calm myself down, and did not do so very successfully for a few minutes.
...The people next to me in the lecture hall probably thought I was insane.

When leaving the girl behind, I don't think she was alive. I left out a few parts because even writing about this gives me the creeps. Whilst being chased back to the drain and before I turned, I presume she was taken. I had intended to push her up first. Yet, panic and fear made me abandon all other actions bar getting the fuck out of there.
EDIT: Infact, after that thought maybe she's still alive? Maybe it's a part of my subconsciousness that's keeping me from dreaming about anything else. I have to go back and get her? Though in all fairness, I'd rather swim with sharks whilst sandpapering my arm than go back their again.
Yeah...it was at the part in the dream where I was a girl (I'm a guy in RL) and somehow the massive warehouse I'd been walking through had turned into a Chinese meditative garden with pagoda and reflecting pond. A sea monster of some kind had reared up out of this pond and then SG-1 was there shooting it. Normally, one would think 'ah-ha! dream!' when ALL THAT is going on, but no, just kept dreaming. The most recent dream I had that I can remember was both strange and funny. In it, Conan O'Brien had gotten his old show back, and I was an intern on the set. But during the taping of the very first return episode, stranger and stranger things kept happening, threatening the taping and even the show itself. And for whatever reason, I was the only one who could make the show go on! At the end of the dream, I ended up solving some ridiculously complicated situation that would've ruined the show and Conan's career completely- becoming the hero to the show's crew and the studio audience. I remember running through the audience, getting high-fives and cheers, with the band and the studio hands all applauding. And Conan, sitting at his desk, grinning broadly at me and saying:
"Wow, that was amazing! You saved the show! I really owe you one!" *face suddenly becomes serious* "Now go get me a coffee, intern."
And just like that, with a "Yes sir, Mr. O'Brien!" from me, everything went back to normal.

This is one that I had a few weeks ago, but has really stuck with me.
That's all I can remember. I haven't had a dream as real or vivid as that one, let alone as terrifying.
EDIT: I just remembered something else. As she continued to refuse to eat, I remember myself getting skinnier as well. I noticed after a while and that's when I gave up and decided to stop trying to feed her.
I have a female friend who is just recently (like, within the last few months) getting over some kind of eating disorder. She has extremely low self confidence, particularly when it comes to her body. In this dream I was entering her house and I noticed that her car, and thus her parents, was gone. When I came down to her basement I saw the door to a room I've never been in open. I called her name and heard a kind of groan coming from that room. I poked my head in and saw her sitting on the floor with her arms chained up. I could tell she was absolutely starved and she looked like a skeleton with skin. My head swam and I quickly undid the shackles and tried to pull her up. She broke free from my grip and put the chains back around.
The rest of the dream, from what I can remember, involved me trying to get her to eat something and every time she refused food, a huge, deep, bleeding gash would open up on my forearms.

That's all I can remember. I haven't had a dream as real or vivid as that one, let alone as terrifying.

I never usually remember my dreams, but I can tell if they were good or bad by how I feel when I wake up. usually if its really bad I'm depressed when I wake up.

Do you normally remember your dreams at all? Because that's what got me with the level of weirdness. I find that I never remember dreams, at all. I close my eyes and then open then and I slept. I never remember anything, good bad or indifferent. Or at most I remember a flash of what 'woke' me from a dream, usually an Alien head. (The probe kind, not the facehugger kind) The only ones I remember are the insanely vivid ones on par with what you describe, vivid and incredibly strange.

I can remember some of the dreams, but this is on another level. I remember it all. In detail. Hell, I could draw you a map of the route we took through the place. I could describe the people that were with me. That's what get's me. Also, yes. I write and work on concept art for a variety of idea's that I come up with. So, I have a more active imagination than most, I'd say at least.
I have a very active imagination, but, for some reason, I very rarely dream, they seem to be coming back recently, but for a while, about 6 months, I didn't have any dreams, nor evidence that I had dreamt at all. I was the same, after that dream I didn't have any "real" dreams for a long time. I'd just sleep and wake up. There's one dream I (somehow) still remember from about 12 years ago when I was about 3-5 years old . It happened around the time when my Mum's parents came over from Australia for their anniversary (I don't remember if it was my parents or my grandparents). So yeah in this dream they were eating mini sausages from this buffet table thing that looked like a fold-out table we have, only twice as long, and I was watching them from the back room. I decide to go and get some food or something, and at the same time something happened which made everyone else decide to go back inside, but I hadn't noticed because I was too involved in the food. I decide to, for some reason, look up at the sky, and what I saw completely freaked me out. It was the "Big Bad Storm Cloud" (or something to that effect). I remember exactly what it looked like, it was kind of a big fluffy cloud like you might find in a cartoon, only it was dark grey, and it had giant, evil, frowny eyes and a mouth made from the cloud. This was a cloud that everyone knew about, and I remembered being told stories about it by my Mum. So as I saw it I got really panicky and I started screaming for my mum, but she had shut the door and they were all watching the formula 1 so she couldn't hear me. The cloud started sucking in and I was being swept off my feet and I was desperately clinging on to whatever I could. I just managed to hold on for long enough and the cloud had to breath out, so I ran, faster than I ever had before. I managed to get halfway down the street before the cloud started sucking in again, and it was definitely going for me. Once again I just managed to stay on the ground before he had to stop, and I thought it would be best if I rang the doorbell to my house, so I ran back up the street. I got to my next door neighbour's and his dad opened the door and started shouting at me to get indoors, but before I could the cloud started sucking again, so I clung onto the wall outside his house as hard as I could. I realised that the cloud would never give up, and that it was hopeless trying to resist, but I still did, just clinging there crying, until eventually I got too weak to hold on any longer, and I started flying towards him. I woke up just then, trying to scream so much that no sound was coming out, which only scared me more.
I remember the cloud so clearly that, if I had any artistic ability, I would be able to draw exactly what I saw in that nightmare.
This may not seem so scary now, but I was very young and a lot of things scared me back then.

Wow, that dream sounds horrifying, i've had some very weird dreams... half of them are NSFW also the only nightmares i've ever had were to do with things not adding up to a multiple of seven... it makes sense in context, anyway I do remember one dream that I think was intended to be a nightmare, it's vague but i'll tell you what I remember:
So I was walking in the 'real world' in a nice peacful place but there was this other zone that was green and it was where the zombies lived, one day I for some reason went there, I think a dare or something and I ended up in the middle of a zombie house, I went outside and I saw a zombie staring at me, instead of getting scared or something, I walked over to it, hugged it, and apologised for tresspassing in it's house, he was grateful that I treated him like a normal person and not like a monster so then we had a tea party ^~^ then when I left I sort of saw other zombies in the zombie area but didn't really talk to any, apart from polite Hello's & when I got back to the 'real world' it was populated by zombies dressed as humans, so I did the same polite thing and eventually got home, then I woke up
And that's the weirdest SFW dream I can remember...

Don't worry, as a kid I used to have dreams similar to that. I'd get caught in the wind and endlessly flipped and blown about the sky. It was terrifying to say the least! Though those dreams aren't anywhere near as vivid as this one and yours.Grogman said:
