*ahem*

I would say probably Ork Teeth from the Warhammer 40k universe, it's not technically a VG but there is enough games from it to count, also the description is hilarious,

"Orks use their teeth ("teef") as currency. This is quite a natural solution to inflation and income support, as Orks regrow their "teef" in a similar manner to sharks, replacing them quite frequently. They degrade over time so it is impossible to hoard them. This keeps prices constant, ensures all Orks have access to money and allows constant values to be placed on commodities. A toof will buy a good squig pie and a tankard of fungus beer, while a bag of teef will buy a cheap Warbuggy. A big flash Battlewagon could cost a Warboss hundreds of teef."

I accept your challenge!

Yes Rupee's are a real world currency, Indian infact.
But they work like any other world currency. There are a limited supply of each note/coin and this supply dictates the value. The actuall coin or note is about 1/10th of the value placed on it.

The LOZ version are little gem/diamond things.
Surely the fact that is a precious stone means that the Rupee itself actually has more monetary value than the value placed on it? Surely the actuall green rupee is worth several rupee's because it is a precios gem? Or are there so many green ruppies lying about that supply and demand means that you can apply the unchanging value of "One" to it? How can a Hyrule bank keep track of the number of blue or green ruppies that about when you find them by cutting grass?

And yes, I have been thinking way too much about this!

Easily explained: Hyrule Banks are run by Goblins. Goblins are great at math. And Gem Currancy. Hence, just like every other nation who doesn't know how their currancy works (yes, I'm looking at you England (pre-Euro... how does something go to 16 and then start again), India, Kuwait, Turkei, Serbia, and Russia) The Goblins have this shit on lock-down with their goblin asses.

Definitley Bottle Caps from Fallout.

In a post apocalyptic wasteland, why would bottle caps become a universally traded item? I can understand why money wouldn't be used any more, but what functional purpose to bottle caps have?

And why would every town, place, travelling salesman, etc, all decide these were what you should use for currency?

It makes no sense. There is no logical argument for why bottle caps would make good currency...

I'd say rupies never made a whole lot of sense to me.

Gems that can be found absolutely everywhere in infinite supply.
Admits tall grass, in bushes, on riverbeds, in trees.

It's just like if we did our shopping with rocks.
I do my shopping with rocks.
Allthough I do it differently to link

I come in there with a big sharp rock
I beat them across the skull
Take what I want
Leave
Shopping done.

in my view ff7's GP (used in the golden saucer), they use Gill rest of the time, then they switch to GP, i know it probably just stands for game points, but a lifetime of D&D have wired my brain to think gold piece.
Its the weirdest for me, but I'm weird too.

bottlecaps are probably the weirdest.. since it's post apocalypse, I'd figured they'd use something more tangible... like food or water or something like that..

Munny. I mean, it's clearly different from money, but how...?

Its mystery confuses and disturbs me.
It's made of dog chew toys. Seriously it looks like hackie sacks and sounds like bells. That or the random bits of scrap you use as money in Ratchet and Clank. Maybe in the next more "realistic" one they'll be forced to rip copper wire out of the walls.
