Well, I just got back from my debate tournament over at a local high school this morning. It was my first time to go to one of these things so it was obvious I was nervous. I was in the Impromptu event which made it even more nerve-racking, seeing how this event isn't something you can truly prepare for. I had to wait for six other people to go before it was my turn. But I noticed something strange about the topics that were being given. They weren't questions.(which for me, would have been much easier) They were quotes(Fuck, I wasn't expecting that) that we had to...I guess analyze would be the right word to use.

So I see everyone else before me kick ass, which somewhat eased the stress a little, I guess.
So I pick up a random quote.

"In our dreams, we are in a world that is entirely our own."

Shit.

Needless to say, I blew it, and didn't make it to the next round. But hey, at least it's over.

So what has been your most nerve-racking moment?

I don't really know I have pretty much over come my nerves, although when my brother went into ICU i guess that had my nerves shocked out of my body.

I think it would have to be... um... daggit, I don't really get nerve-racked, I'm a pretty laid back person. First time on a 6 hour drive on Route 70 was pretty scary as hell. Opening the letter from my number one college pick was nerve racking. But I think the winner was when some drunk driving prick tried to run me down in a parking lot.

My most nerve-wracking moment was probably during THIMUN (model united nations thing). I was not only one of the youngest people there, but I was also one of the main participants (namely I asked questions that made people who were wrong look bad and they were out to get me for it). When I finally went up to give a speech of my own I was still nervous but I got my point across and did really well. I even answered questions.

My most trying moment (worry wise) was when my mum got really sick. My dad was on business so I held down the fort for a while. I took care of her but it was really...well worrying. But we got through that so I didn't necessarily need to worry as much as I did for that.

When I had to go to the police station and testify or something, because my friend got mugged so I had to say what happened. And then, the criminal gave me a psychotic smile when he found out that he's going to be in prison for a long time. I was shaking like hell!

Oh yeah, before that, the little idiot threatened me In the police station!

Hey, you got that quote and didn't immediately think Neil Gaiman? Ah, shame, shaaaame.

Finals rounds for debate tournaments are nerve-racking, especially if you're actually debating and fixing to hit a team that's from [insert-any-highly-overpriced-private-school-here].

Public speaking makes me nervous if I have nothing to say, but in reference to what my most nerve-racking moment was (outside personal stuff I can't seem to recall), opening night of the show I directed was a big one. Interviewing for the school I now go to was another.

Probably the first time I dumped a girl. Man do I ever hate dumping people.

There was also the time I performed improv in front of 900 people in Ottawa, but that wasn't nerve-wracking so much as it was exhilarating. Having 900 people applaud you and knowing that they mean it is pretty much the best feeling in the world.
