I recently saw an article (in ESPN magazine, of all places), that says that, according to a recent study of 7000 gamers playing Everquest, gamers tend to be "fitter, richer, and better educated" than non gamers, due to less exposure to ads on TV. However, they also tend to be more depressed because of "lack of human contact." What do you think?

btw, I also want to throw this out there, the magazine also said that the participants were all given a new weapon for everquest, and they were very quick to point out that it has "no real-world value." I just thought that was sort of condescending.

That statement is 50% true. I can believe smarter and all that.
Yeah, I think the people who thought up the "no human contact" argument forgot to take online games (especially with a headset) into consideration.

I was able to read at a college level since the 4th grade and I blame Final Fantasy for that.

I doubt they would be fitter? considering the sterotypical image of a gamer being an overweight lazy person who sits on a couch all day. Also i dont think they would watch less TV adds? im a gamer, and i always have the tv on right beside me, im watching family guy as i type, but its on commercial so i have to type fast! But the study was on RPG gamers, who i would say play games more, and would be less athletic than the average gamer, i play Warcraft 3 and pretty much every game on Xbox live, but i also play football, basketball, hockey and i snowboard, so im well ballanced out and i wouldnt do a survey like this one just for an adition to my game? "no real-world value"? then no thank you. lol

Which gamers are they talking about? These days everyone plays games, from jocks to nerds. Even games like Everquest.

I wonder what the real-world values are for watching ESPN Extreme Games?
There are none. It's a waste of time.
Kinda my point. :) ESPN stating that an in-game item has no real-world value; they should look at their own programming. Oh, the irony.

Seems mostly true except for the fitter part. I doubt many people here are at the height of their physical peak and an amazing athlete.

Yeah... sorry about that. I'm not very good at spelling words I've never spelt before.
You also spelled spelled wrong just now. There's a spell check on the forum, that's the only reason I knew how to spell shenanigans.

To be fair, "spelt" is also valid:

:)

Nope I spelt it right. Try it in word perfect, it works. I do think that the people who did this survey, the people who took it I mean, lied in every answer if they said they were fit.
...Alright, I don't think it's right, but I'll let it go for the sake of the thread. That's also a possibility with this survey.

Didn't think it was worth mentioning, but there was also an article by Tsquared (if you watch G4, you know) about Pro gaming. My dad was reading the magazine this morning and almost choked on his breakfast about how many gaming articles there were.
