This sounds dangerously addictive. What is tvtropes?
TV tropes is a wiki site that explores memes and conventions in all manner of media, from games, to comic books, to movie to the eponymous television. Each page starts with a title, like Nintendo Hard, usually has a webcomic, and then a short description of what the Trope means, followed by an extensive list of user generated discussion about different examples of said Trope

Then at the bottom there are related tropes to keep you surfing for hours.

TvTropes is both a gift and a curse. For one, I can plan out my fiction with plenty of inspiration that my mind could not have conjured. For the other, It can take up plenty of hours and is an excellent black hole for extreme procrastinators.

Well, reading this thread gave me the smallest amount of time ive ever been trapped in TvTropes...like, an hour. So that says something.

I think it was about 4 hours. Shortest was about an hour. I've probably spent about half a day on the site overall, though.

So it looks just like a wiki page? I've spent several hours stubbing on wikipedia. Whats so different between the two sites?

Can't say I've heard of tvtropes. I'd go check it out but I'm scared I'll become addicted. I'm already addicted to The Escapist. O_O

Um, probably around three minutes.
I just don't really see what's so great about it.
I get linked, I read half of the page, then I get bored and go do something fun.
Like poking squirrels.
With a pencil.

20minutes, I don't find it that appealing and all those links annoy me, I can't be bothered clicking them all.

We are not Wikipedia. We're a buttload more informal. There Is No Such Thing As Notability, and no citations are needed. If your entry cannot gather any evidence by the Wiki Magic, it will just wither and die. Until then, though, it will be available through the Main Tropes Index. We encourage breezy language and original thought (and won't object to the occasional snarky comment, either).

Never been there, never want to go there. That's the thing about having a job. I always have something better to do than surf the net for hours on end.

Great, now I have to resist going to read some more of it.
I think I've read all of the ones that interested me though, maximum time spent on it was about 3-4 hours at a time.

I'm glad I don't get addicted to things easily. I just procrastinate way to much and need to find something to fill up my time. TvTropes just filled in that gap for me for a while.
