I had a thought while I was perusing the internets earlier.
These recent killbots that the US is developing - I understand that they are the "first step" in the new wave of military technology and what not, but every single story you ever hear is about these robots going wrong. Have we learned nothing from the past 50 years of sci-fi?!
We don't know what the airforce (actually, canon says it will be the navy who does the major comp-sci work in the US if memory serves) are currently developing - maybe a thinking machine is on the way. Certainly not yet full fledged AI, but throw enough computing power at an expert system and we could well be logging at judgement day.
The only thing is the US can't seem to fix a target that is worthy of threat, so we're probably O.K. in the nuke department.
So escapists, what else do you see coming true from movies like the terminator series, or some of our favourite sci-fi works.
One of the 20% who as never called their computer HAL9000. Though I had one called dave.
