I had a thought while I was perusing the internets earlier.

These recent killbots that the US is developing - I understand that they are the "first step" in the new wave of military technology and what not, but every single story you ever hear is about these robots going wrong. Have we learned nothing from the past 50 years of sci-fi?!

We don't know what the airforce (actually, canon says it will be the navy who does the major comp-sci work in the US if memory serves) are currently developing - maybe a thinking machine is on the way. Certainly not yet full fledged AI, but throw enough computing power at an expert system and we could well be logging at judgement day.

The only thing is the US can't seem to fix a target that is worthy of threat, so we're probably O.K. in the nuke department.

So escapists, what else do you see coming true from movies like the terminator series, or some of our favourite sci-fi works.

One of the 20% who as never called their computer HAL9000. Though I had one called dave.

Well, its odd that Skynet comes online this year, as the final terminator movie is being aired. Yes, this is the one that focuses on the war between the humans and the robots, and seeing if John Connor can fulfil his destiny even after he changed his past.
I heard rumours (maybe on IMDB) they were going to do a second trilogy (Yes the third film happened, don't pretend it didn't) but it would focus on someone other than the mighty JC, a lieutenant / best friend of JC or something.

Can somebody explain what this thread is about, because I don't get what he's going on about.
On that blight terminator 3: rise of the machines a government computer network becomes self-aware and makes America nuke itself and all that good stuff...so yeah...it's a pointless movie reference...

It would make sense if we had made a robot that could run, let alone shoot guns and be indestructable :p

Not quite terminator level technology but pretty impressive.

Possibly, but mine is named Xerxes.
The Laptop is called The Body.

As long as Skynet doesn't use Linux we'll all be fine. With any Luck Norton designed it's security systems and it'll turn on itself. Shortest war ever...

They way that thing moves it reminds me of a quadropedal Hunter, very cool but also slightly disturbing.

We need a vampire hunter. I suggest Blade or van Helsing. Then we need to tell them that all robots are vampires.

Problem sorted, they're both near unkillable.

Well we have robots that can walk, and recover from being kicked:

We also have robots that can shoot guns:

So we can combine the two!
And as for indestructible, terminators aren't indestructible, it's just that they go back ~40 years or more, so technology to destroy them hasn't been made yet. I'm sure they're completely destructible in their own time, otherwise it wouldn't be much of a war, would it?

I don't know how much problem solving would get done before we're all destroyed in a nuke storm, but it'd be fun to see before we die.

On topic: If (an) apocalypse comes, I'm going to go out the same way I came in. Only it won't be the same women, and it will be in reverse (to a point).
Sounds like a solid plan.

I can't recall exactly when, its been a few years since I last saw them.

And if Skynet doesn't kill us, we're done for in 2012 anyway. December 12th, 2012 to be exact.
