If you're still having doubts about what the 3DS is capable of graphicaly, take a look at this

Keep in mind we may not see a game that looks like this for a while save for Iron Fall, as the 3DS has to render an image twice for the 3D effect. Also, don't expect the picture quality to look as good as the video, since a game like this would have to be compressed down to the 3DS screen resolution.

Haha, if you are still having doubts about what the 3DS is capable of, watch this video that is not indicative of how the game will look on the 3DS... Haha

1. At this point, do people really care what its capable of graphically? Very few developers are going to "max out" the 3DS, because it is pointless.
This just a rough idea of what the system is capable of doing, I never said it will look exactly the same due to screen limitations. We have already seen a few developers make games looking just as good, if not better, than the tech demo. Capcom is a notable example thanks to their MT Framework Mobile engine, A mobile version of the Resident Evil 5 and Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 engine.

Shill harder.

It still looks inferior to what I've actually witnessed my Vita render. But honestly, who cares? Good games > good graphics.

I'll believe it when I have it in my grubby little hands. A non-interactive short video online is not proof of anything (see any trailer from E3 that has ever existed for precedent). You can make these things GORGEOUS since it's a glorified video file.

I never said it's going to look as good as the Vita, But the fact that the 3DS can run a game like Resident Evil: Revelations, or a Monster Hunter 3 port that actually looks Better than the Wii version shows that the graphical gap isn't nearly as big as it was with the DS and PSP.

As somebody who owns and loves the 3DS, that's really not representative of how any game on there looks. But you know what? That's fine! It makes developers branch out with their graphical styles, so we get stuff like Pokemon, Fire Emblem and Luigi's Mansion. None look amazing hardware wise but they all look great because of the aesthetics.

It's because not many developers are pushing the 3DS hardware yet. There's Capcom's games, Iron Fall, and Shin'ren's work. But that's about it so far.

That's very interesting. Of course I don't really care about what my 3DS is capable of graphically, I'm more interested in what it's capable of in terms or gameplay and story.

Personally, I could barely give a single care about the graphics gimmick running through Microsoft and Sony platforms. On the contrary, I'd love to see more clean-looking sprite games on the 3DS with 3D backgrounds (Fire Emblem) rather than raggedy 3D models.

This is what the 3DS is capable of:
It is capable of playing games on a portable platform. That is it. That is all I care about, and I get the jist from this thread that many people agree with me. Its bad enough that "ZOMG POLYGONZZZZ!!!!" has taken over the console industry; the same mindset would destroy the handheld industry.

Handholds have no reason to get more powerful than the 3DS is right now (sorry Vita). None whatsoever. They can still get better by getting smaller, thinner, lighter, etc., but there is no reason for them to get more powerful.

Despite Sony's best attempts to destroy it, the handheld market is the only part of gaming that has highly stylized games rather than just cramming as many polygons on the screen as humanely possible, and it needs to stay that way. Attempts to push hardware boundaries on a handheld will inflate system and software prices, which is one of the real strengths handheld games have over consoles.

If people are looking for consoles with higher graphical capabilities then they're not going to be looking at a 3DS.

The 3DS will and is selling because of the games people can buy for it or expect to buy for it. Also, because Pokemon is pretty much heroine.

Was that supposed to be impressive or something?
How does that look good?
Just look at that atrocious stretched sky texture.
I don't even remember any of my ps2 games drawing attention to skyboxes like that.
Were they all out of keys to dangle in front of my face to distract me from that with this small scene already?
Cause that's not a testament of power, mind you.
There is one (1) animated character, usually games require more than that.

If you truly want to see the 3ds at its breaking point in an actual game, play pokemon x/y.
That basically forefits the 3d effect to push the graphics and still manages to lag in places.

Not necessary for success, 3DS is much weaker than the Vita for example, yet it beats Vita in every other possible department as a game system.

Play Resident Evil: Revelations on a 3DS XL with the 3D cranked up to see what the 3DS is actually capable of. You will most likely be impressed.

So what I'm getting from this is that they should make a ReBoot game for the 3DS?

Not to mention most of the objects in the video aren't even dynamic. It's nice and all, but the MainFrame Samurai doesn't even interact with his environment. Even if it was "gameplay" or similar, it could be 85% skybox.

Meh. Even if it's not HD, the graphics on games like Resident Evil: Revelations and Kid Icarus Uprising blew me away because I was comparing them to DS graphics. Also, Star Fox 64 3D and Ocarina of Time 3D are a massive step up from N64 graphics unlike Super Mario 64 DS.
