This is one thing that bothers me. I'll admit I haven't read the bill, and I don't know all about it, but would this possibly affect things like Skyrim Mods as well?

I don't think it would because aren't those allowed by Bethesda and all them?

Sorry for answering a question with a question :>

I suppose it would depend on the mod. Say it was something like the Zoidberg Mod, that would have to be taken down because obviously Zoidberg is from Futurama. However if it's something like - and here's where you find out I have no idea what kinds of mods would exist being a console gamer and all - maybe push a button to turn off gravity or something, that would be fine because gravity isn't copyrighted (rather obviously, although it would be odd if it was)

Yeah, I don't think it'd have any effect, unless it was putting copyrighted characters in a game and we all know modders can do better than that (play The Nameless Mod for Deus Ex and you'll know what I mean.)

Extremely unlikely.

If the content is 100% original, it has no traction at all.

If the content is partially original, then its a new fan creation, its still owned by the fan, therefore they can't do anything.

I wouldn't worry about it as SOPA won't ever work, and has gone away for the time being.

I would imagine a lot of it depends on the mod site. In that if the mod site generates revenue via adverts, membership, etc. then it might run afoul of SOPA.

You could make original content. But you wouldn't be able to make a mod based on a movie or a TV show or something like that. For example, I just downloaded a Narsil and Anduril mod for Skyrim (LoTR sword). If SOPA passes, making such mods would be illegal. SOPA isn't the biggest threat though. ACTA is still the biggest threat, and it's still being discussed in secret. So while we're whining about SOPA (for a reason), ACTA is being ignored completely.
