Er, maybe one where Attila did crush the Roman empire in it's totality, one where the nukes never had gone off in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, one that instead of the Chernobyl happened, some nuclear places in other countries, or one that a president is a pianist and it's obsessed with music.

Genghis Khan didn't die at such an inopportune time, leading to the continued expansion of the Mongol empire. Subotai continues his ass-kicking across the rest of Europe. In the face of his impossible brilliance, various European monarchies embark on a mission across the Atlantic, seeking respite from the Golden Horde.

There aren't enough games based in the Dark Ages...

What if Harold hadn't got one in the eye?

I'd like to see an RTS game based on "The Guns of the South", if you don't know the book white supremacist South Africans travelled back to the American Civil War and gave the confederates AK-47s, it's a very good book, and it deconstructs the "Hollywood history" of the American Civil War (it wasn't just about slavery) that the South Africans bought into.
I read that fairly recently, it is a most excellent book indeed! I think the idea of the South winning the Civil War and succeeding in maintaining their own nation whilst also going on to collect colonies in the imperialist rush of the late 19th century would be rather interesting. It could set the stage for another conflict with the United States at a later date in time with improved technology. For example the Confederate States of America could side with Germany in World War I.

Tsarist Russia conquers the world with the advent of Bear Cavalry. Communist Russia never emerges, and so the nation remains a world superpower through the sheer tenacity of the magnificent beasts and their tamers.

Fast forward 200 years and you've got a cool concept for an RTS that contains mecha-bears/armoured bears whose masters are armed with lasers.

... what? I would buy it. Pewpew.

One where scandinavianists had their way and a pan-scandinavian state was created. Furthermore, these persistent notions of moose cavalry was actually realised.
