Hitman isn't exactly stealth. Thief goes more to the point. Splinter cell if memory serves is along those lines as well.

In terms of great stealth gameplay, I think that the entire Splinter Cell series will do you right. All four of the games are at least reasonably good, and some are flat-out great. They're great too because you can get all of them relatively cheap for a wide variety of systems.

So far I think that you should get Splinter Cell. Partly because everyone else is saying the series is good but I find it extremely fun do to the amount of things you can do to scare the NPCs. It's fun for me because I like the feeling of being like Mike Myers or Jason in my own personal horror show. I just wish the NPCs had more emotions THEN I could really have some fun.

Siphon Filter: The Omega Strain is good for PS2. It can be hard to get used to the controls and you can't get 100% unless you can play online, but there is a lot of sneaking, killing patrols, stealing patrols outfits, and more sneaking to be done. There is also a crap load of weapons you can unlock (to bad you'll probably have to buy a strategy guide if you want to beat half the levels).

I have to recommend the Hitman series. It's not stealth where you hide in the shadows in your black leotard, it's different. In hitman you're a badass bald guy who takes people's lives and clothes. Seriously, it's much better than I'm making it sound.

I'd like some stealth games too, I dont get nearly enough of sneaking around and giving gun wielding hostiles wedgies. I know its not quite a stealth game but the SOCOM seires (the first game in paticular) was very good, even if the difficulty for every third mission was somwhere between murderous and phycotic! Some of the Rainbow six games are suposed to be stealth but I'v only played two so I'm not sure.

You sound like you have the same boredom thresh hold / intolerance for stealth thast I have so Thief it is.
Genuinely tense and varying levels of ease to choose so it never gets frustrating.
