Tainted Grail: Fall of Avalon
Once every two blue moons there is a noble AA attempt at doing their own take on Elder Scrolls RPGs, like Dark Messiah, and, uh, the others that I'm sure exist but fail to find memory or right now. Well this right here is the latest! Yes it's jank, yes it's AA, yes in many ways it doesn't surpass the competition,
but on the other hand it's
1: Cheap mid budget price, like £35 not bad considering latest inflation.
2: a bit more risqué with content, is 18 rated and is just littered with books that are literal ye old English pornos written with gusto and flair.
3: the Devs seem really happy to be noticed like at all, they provided a demo weeks before release and the game description is kinda cute about it.
4: a much higher garuntee you money isn't going straight to a corporation that's aiding the military in process of an ongoing live-streamed fucking genocide baby-holocaust in Palestine!
5: fresh uncut eurojank, exquisite glitches and bugs you'll never see coming, like last couple of filthy peasants who attacked me unprovoked had whatever special effects were supposed to be rendered from each of their melee attacks visibly take the day off, leaving instead an intimidating singular white square quickly expanding upon my screen every swing...disappearing only when the next attack birthed a new quick-expanding white square.
Music is a bit more interesting than elder scrolls though, one of those where the emotion is kinda being boarded entirely in the main theme tune it blasts you with as soon as it can. And some of the gothic design can be a tad reminiscent of Prometheus/Engineers architecture in the alien film people failed to appreciate.
Tutorial is a bit of a slog, typical prison schlock for the genre but the sooner you can push through it the better, it reveals the somewhat intriguing narrative hook and sends you on your way. Is messy combat, and third person apparently is more an emergency accessibility option than a tailored experience I've heard elsewhere. The tone strikes a balance of being darker yet more humourous than its peers, if that makes any sense.
that theme tune though. whenever am mildly annoyed and the tune returns am just like "ok fine stahhp, stahhhhp! you're getting me all emotional in front of the girls again!"
