And the endless dungeon that the mechanics encourage you to do in large chunks with a save every 10 floors so when you get hit with an instadeath spell on floor 9 you get to do it all again?
You can get homunculus items that stop instideath spells. They are even card rewards.

I'm enjoying Control more now that I'm basically playing as Jean Grey. And everything from firing your gun to hurling debris or flying around has a cooldown, meaning you end up using everything you've got instead of relying on the one thing.
Similar to the inFAMOUS games Control "stacks" its powers very well - As soon as you get a new power you'll be using it in tandem with every other power you've acquired thus far.

Metal Fist - The Japanese version of Fighting Force. It's much easier, gets rid of the useless jump button, makes the back fist/back attack and grab button separate buttons, gives you more ammo for guns, and is much more fun. You get actual lives and continues now, and start off with 3 lives, and 3 continues now. There is no reason to play the Western version of this game anymore, if you got the import, or on emulation. Here's hoping Limited Run either bothers to have both regional versions of the first game, or do a combination/merged version of the two. Because they're not even going to bother with porting the N64 version.

Well I'm sure the remakes make it more bearable, but 264 floors is still way too many.
So far in the remake the floors aren't very long and if you really want to, its not hard to run past enemies.

Persona 3 updated:

I unlocked Fuuku, a sort of important milestone for me because I was kind of planning on "romancing" whomever was the Priestess arcana. This is simply because because I happened to go with the character of the priestess arcanas in P4 (Yukiko, the goody-two-shoes small town girl ideal) and P5 (Makoto because I thought it would be funny to hook up with the sister of my plot framing device interrogator). So I figured why not a full Priestess hook-up run.

But when Yukari started getting skeptical and antagonist about the SEES leaders' motivations and being the only one besides me (the player, not my character) to think it very weird that that same family that owns the school and a bunch of city wealth and power also has their daughter leading my group into battle, I gotta say- this is my kinda gal. Also dig the bow and arrow attack, the healing powers- this is really the one character I like a lot in this game so far. Everyone else is fine (visually of course I dig Mitsuro with the long red hair over the eye and the hair flippy animation).

Combat/gameplay wise, it's in between 4 and 5 for me. The short levels removes some of the tedium I experiences early on with 4, but of course I miss the variety and level design creativity of 5. I'm playing on easy because unlike 4, there is no setting to specifically increase money rewards, and you need money to do everything in this game, and I really do not want to make a 100 hr game take 200 hrs just because I screwed up a fusion or need to re-fight a few levels all the time. But that's ok, I'm not really in these games for the combat (I don't even like turn-based combat actually!), I'm in it for the secondary game loop overall rhythm of combat->exploration->social sim->story.

Metal Fist has been completed. It's the japanese version of Fighting Force. While a much better game, it still has some of those bad bounds issues or gives certain enemies more health to balance out the easier difficulty. The last level is still a slog, but not as long as a slog in the western versions of the game. I do enjoy the 90 manga style artwork they made for the characters to match the Japanese market. You at least get actual lives and continues this time. I did my entire playthrough as Alana this time. I managed to do a no continue run, and got 500k+ as my final score.

Finished Control. I was into the story but I think the narrative suffers from having to justify free roam, and I kinda wish they'd just ignored it. And they couldn't even be bothered to think of a final boss, even though there's an obvious choice.

The ashtray maze sequence was badass though.

Two weeks left on my PS+ sub, I'll see if there's anything else left worth playing.

That's always been the problem with Remedy games. The lack of a final boss, or a crappy/underwhelming final boss.

Final Fight 2 Readjusted - 1CC completed as Maki on Expert mode. That was not easy, and I am never doing that again. Even though I found it somewhat satisfying.

Beat Tactical Breach Wizards. It was really cool. The fights get nicely challenging and the story/characters are great. You also get to choose the ending you get in a very clever way that I like. Highly recommend if you like turn based tactics with more of a puzzle focus.

Playing Dark Souls for the first time in like eleven years is more entertaining than I expected. Despite playing through it countless times and doing almost everything again and again, I can't remember a lot of the great level design and how areas connect that well. To an extent it's like playing it again for the first time. I have fallen for many traps that I should have remembered.

I'm also abusing the idiotic counter way more than I did back then. Not a very good combat system.

The thing that maybe bothers me most about Dark Souls is that resources are too precious to try out a variety of weapons. "Role-playing" is dumb.

Way too easy to run past them all after you're sick of failing the normal way, thanks to awful AI.

I got the platinum for Legend of Dragoon this weekend. Not a difficult plat for a JRPG but the quick time turns reminded me that Expedition 33 isn't anywhere close to the first game to have reactive turn based gameplay. Dragoon did it first.

The Shadow Hearts series also did the action wheel thing.

Super Mario RPG had it even earlier than those two, and while it's not extremely obvious, it actually had 'perfect' inputs very early on as well. You have a 5F window to take 0 damage from most attacks, and I think 7F after that for half, which for a game from 1996 before action commands in RPGs were at all 'common' is a little surprising, especially considering that Paper Mario and Mario and Luigi didn't maintain that aspect (other than super guards in TTYD, but that's a little different.)

Got the Platinum for Control, now I'm playing the DLC.

Sam Lake really likes "the number of the beast" jokes, huh. They made the 665 joke in Max Payne 2. And evidently he thinks janitors are kinda cool, the way David Cage thinks the homeless are kinda cool.

Finally finished The Outer Worlds 2. Hmmm. I guess I can best sum it up by saying that when I finished Fallout games, TES games, The Outer Worlds 1... I immediately want to create another character to try it with another build. I can see me doing that with TOW2, but later. Maybe much later. Definitely not right now. It was fine... I think. There were things about it I didn't like, but no dealbreakers. The biggest problem though was on the other side of things. There weren't any really good bits where it all came together either. And the ending is fairly lame. You are cruising along after hitting the level cap, pretty much overleveled for anything you want to go back and do. And then you go to the location for the final main quest, and conveniently the enemies there all have double HP for reasons. And since my build didn't have one of 2 or 3 exact of the mixes of perks at the right levels to talk down the final boss, I got to fight the final boss. Who was a just a random dude with 10x HP, but went down in 2 hits to the special gun you only get a dozen shots ever with because of limited ammo.

And then you get the ending-tron decision, and because I played Fallout 3 and I know that Obsidian and Microsoft can't wait to further monetize TOS2... I know the decision I made will be undone. Robbing it of any meaning it may have had. And you see how some of the other decisions you made affected things, that mostly I didn't care enough about to wonder how things turned out in the first place. Ditto with the endings for each of the companions. One of which was about the worst and least interesting video game ending I have ever seen. One companion's ending is basically "Oh, she dies. The end."

Really. Really TOW2. And then she dies. Like any further interest in TOW2 I had.

If it had been really bad, I wouldn't have finished it. It is a solid 6 out of 10 I guess. But it seems worse. My expectations were for so much more than what we got. Now, I don't know. Maybe back to Baldur's Gate 3 with another build. Maybe back to another cozy game, find something interesting like Dave the Diver was.

I am flying through Persona 3: Reload because I kind of play a "day" in between work and home chores.
I actually like dungeon crawling through Tartarus, even though the level design and variety is nowhere near as fun as Persona 5 (but that was that game's strongest point, IMO). I like that the floors are small and the additions of the extra corridors with tougher bosses and powerful item drops that appear half-way through.
P4 will always be my favorite of my three because it was my first, the story hook, and that even though it has the worst characters, it also has the best ones. But its dungeon leveling is actually the least of the three- I can see how it was an attempt to add more intricate and interesting elements to the levels but it didn't really add anything worth the bother yet. P5 was the actual realization of that.

I think when I'm done I'm gonna check out Where Winds Meet. This is the f2p Chinese game that is like all the games in one or something. It's getting the most mixed response I've ever seen in a game and that makes it interesting.

Gotten futher in Persona 3, at floor 60 or so and got the 5th character. It does still feel like its lesser to P5, but its added enough things, especially in combat that I'm sure weren't there in the original to really make it still a very good game.

Also grabbed Marvel Cosmic Invasion, its a brawler. Gameplay is really good, not quite up to the level of Streets of Rage 4, but up there. Its got a lot of player characters to choose from and you play tag team so you can swap to your teammate whenever you want, either to just swap, get out of a hold, if you get knocked down, or to do extra attacks. The story is very comic book though and all that that implies.

Finally been playing a lot of Cross Blitz. Its a card ability builder game. Its pretty great. The card gameplay is Hearth Stone, at least from when Totalbiscuit used to stream it. No idea what its like since then. But the art is nice and colorful, moving around the map is weirdly satisfying since the terrain bounces as you walk over it and the stories and characters are very good. You have 5 different campaigns, each with their own card sets. There is a loose order to them also, left to right. You don't miss anything by playing them out of order, but later characters will show up in other characters campaigns. Recommend if you like card/ability builders.

Returned to Firelink Shrine to find the bonfire off. I didn't even remember the maiden behind the bars. Was gonna pass her to go to "Ghost" Londo later. She's dead. I also couldn't find Patches in the Catacombs, who if I remember correctly kills her.

Also don't remember it being so much work to go all the way back up after killing the spider woman boss, Qualag or whatever her name was. Thought I'd warp back or return with an elevator or something. And I can't remember in which direction the second bell is. Up, somewhere.

So many hours, so many playthroughs, and I can't remember.
Oh yeah, the twin gargoyles and the first bell are on top of the church that I passed so many times already in this playthrough. Think this is the first time I rang the second bell before the first bell. I was so overpowered for the gargoyles.
