Most of us are escaping from something. Ourselves, our family, a haunting memory. We use video games, music, film, books and other mediums to escape from something.

I'm curious to know what fellow Escapists are escaping from.

As for myself, I spend hours a day playing extremely immersive games to forget about my family members murder trial that we're in the middle of.

You have my well wishes. What am I escaping from? Nothing in particular. I have a fantasy-prone personality. Getting lost in fantasies in media or my head just happens.

The black hole in my heart that is currently threatening to consume me. Some nights, I'm not escaping very well at all.

Well, compared to majority of people in the world I'm well off, but even still, there is boredom and jut the real world in general which I would like to ignore for a while and I prefer Video games over talking and dealing with people much of the time since a computer won't care about my social etiquete. Which from the way I say it makes escapisim for someone like me sound like something for the weak willed, lazy and those lacking in ambition, whilst those with real problems actcually have a good reason./endunnecessarycynicyisimanduseofmadeupwords Edit: Well this thread is depressing...

Nothing really in particular, I just find video games, TV, music, movies, and my own writing to be more exciting than most days of my real life. So I guess you could say I'm escaping from reality.

Wait, what? So you play video games, read books and do whatever you do with other forms of entertainment and what have you, in order to obtain some not well explained mystical energy? Colour me interested...

Reality, and myself as I am. I like being able to be someone else, or a better version of myself.

Escape... I can't really say I'm escaping from anything. Not intentionally, anyway.

Because I used to have a hellish life and it occasionally calls me on the phone,

Wow, I hope the system has some justice for you although it can never replace a loved one.

At this point I am mostly escaping from my parents divorce. Being an adult when it happens doesn't seem to make it easier.

Souplex escapes from nothing. If something opposes him, he goes for leisurely strolls dragging it's mangled corpse behind him.

Not to sound pathetic or cliche, but I'm trying to escape myself. I'm growing more and more upset with myself, and I play games and read to derail my mind from worrying about it.
