Trudi Canavan's The Black Magician trilogy; The Magician's Guild, The Novice and The High Lord. I've already read them, but decided to reread them as they're so good.
I'd also reccomend The Age of the Five trilogy (Priestess of the White, Last of the Wilds and Voice of the Gods), all by Trudi Canavan. Though not as good as The Magician's Guild trilogy, it is written well, and provides some intriguing views on religion.

I'm also reading Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights.

I just finished reading 'Making money' the latest Discworld book, it was a good read, but not as good as 'Going Postal', the previous Moist von Lipwig book. At the moment I'm not reading anything, but I'll be picking up 'Confessor' soon, to finish off the sword of truth series, which I've thoroughly enjoyed.

has anyone in this thread had any time with that Amazon Kindle thing?

I'm curious about it and how comfortable it is to read with...

Of course, the second generation thats inevitably out in a year will kick it's ass, but my curiosity still needs to be satiated.

I'm two thirds into "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" Short and sweet. The plot is full of surprises.

The Sword of Attila by Michael Curtis Ford is an awesome book as well. It's about the lives of Flavius Aetius and Attila, and the events of their lives leading up to the Battle of Chalons. It has modernized dialogue (ie, "At ease, man. What are you waiting for, a medal?"), a great plot, and the humour, though there isn't much of it, is bloody hilarious.

The Prince of Nothing series of fantasy novels by R Scott Bakker, great, very different, epic fantasy novels which are fairly new. I don't read much fantasy but I'm into this. Got into the series through a uni course on Tolkien, kept reading because I got to meet the author and he was quite an interesting fellah.

Dragonflight, the very first book of Anne McCaffrey's novel "Dragonriders of Pern". I didn't even know it was from 1968. It is a good read and it features two very likable or at least interesting characters (being the main ones) with a good number of supporting ones. Only thing that I don't enjoy is that sometimes I don't understand what is going on. Probably from her type of writing that confuses me a bit.

I'm now reading the complete Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. I've seen the TV series, watched the movie and even listened to a few snippets of the radio series but never read the book. Things are funny like that.

I'm diving into some lighter fare for the first week of the new year, notably the "His Dark Materials" set.

Ah, of course when I scroll through here I read of people's intelligent readings.

However I start my New Year with Russell Brand's 'My Booky Wook'. It's different to what I was reading before, which was Lord of the Flies.

"The Blue Nowhere" by Jeffery Deaver

Story:
"When a sadistic hacker, code-named Phate, sets his sights on Silicon Valley, his victims never know what hit them. He infiltrates their computers, invades their lives, and lures them to their deaths. To Phate, each murder is like a big, challenging computer hack: every time he succeeds, he must challenge himself anew? by taking his methodology to a higher level, and aiming at bigger targets.

Desperate, the head of The California State Police Computer Crimes Division frees Wyatt Gillette, imprisoned for hacking, to aid the investigation ? against the loud protests of the rest of the division. With an obsession emblematic of hackers, Gillette fervently attempts to trace Phate's insidious computer virus back to its source. Then Phate delivers a huge blow, murdering one of the division's own ? a "wizard" who had pioneered the Internet ? and the search takes on a zealous intensity.

Gillette and Detective Frank Bishop ? an old-school homicide cop who's accustomed to forensic sleuthing ? make an uneasy team. But with a merciless and brilliant killer like Phate in their cross hairs, and his twisted game reaching a fever pitch, they must utilize every ounce of their disparate talents to stop him."

Currently, I am reading The Zombie Survival Guide, Complete Protection From The Living Dead by Max Brooks. If you haven't read this yet, pick it up! It's a really good read!
