I loved Evil Within, played through it like 3 times. RE4 is in my top 3 favorite games of all time and EW has nowhere near the polish, tight gameplay or brilliant encounter design of that game but it has an unmistakable charm to it with vivid imagination, neat horror movie hommages, dream like stage hopping, quirky offbeat characters and a tactical depth that makes every bullet count with cool splatter sounds that never loses it's sense of urgency. The production values resemble more an AA game, which ofcourse comes from lack of resources as Tango was just a newly formed studio and not a gaming behemoth like Capcom. I doubt many of Evil Within's ideas would ever find it's way in an established AAA studio though. EW resembles more a grindhouse horror, definitely an acquired taste but fans of the genre will most likely love it.Phoenixmgs said:I never tried Evil Within myself because it seemed like trying to do RE4 again. It seemed like some people dug it though.Casual Shinji said:Yeah, The Evil Within was Mikami, too. I used to have an unshakable faith in the guy, but Evil Within was so horrendously bad that having his name and studio attached fills me with more dread than hope.Phoenixmgs said:-Ghostwire: Tokyo (no gameplay but looks interesting and Mikami!!!)
The sequel was technically better but didn't have the original's unique identity or imagination, and felt more like a cheaper version of more succesful games.
