I pick based on the martial art and whether I find it's a good representation of the real-life thing. I also tend to gravitate toward taekwon-do users (like Hwoarang in Tekken) because I practice ITF style myself.

I like fighting games, I'm just kind of rubbish at them. I can only play in short bursts and I enjoy the spectacle above all else. Authenticity is a plus.

I say cerebella is the heavy of skullgirls because in my opinion she is the slowest(and is the only one I've seen without a dash) but she can take the most punishment and once the opponent makes a mistake she gives that damage right back. I mostly use the dragon punch spinning move whenever in a tight spot because it can launch your opponent to the other side of the screen so you can escape.
Can't argue with that... What she lacks with speed, she's make up for in power... Actually, now that I think about it, she's kind of an all-around heavy character, especially when she can pull of combos that resemble those of grapple and "zoning" moves...

I have been told I don't use her "correctly", but then again, she's that flexible to be used that way to begin with...

Whichever one I like. Lucario is my favourite in Smash Bros., and Dudley was my best in SF3/4.
I guess the connecting thread they have is they're both moderately mobile fighters with high-power attacks, some of which require them to take hits from the opponent and counter.

Hm, i like the more tactical approach in games (I am not good enough otherwise) and like countering characters, or those able to play mindgames.

In Street-Fighter IV, for example i played most with Gouken (Can counter any standard attack, even most Ultras/Supers) and Dan (Taunting the crap out of foes and play a hectic attack/retreat game)

But mostly the character i play has to have one thing: STYLE. It has to be fun watching him/her doing her stuff. May it be funny or hardcore brutal, but is has to be entertaining.

I mainly like either characters with flashy attacks or agile/fast-attacking characters. So yeah, probably Light characters. But since others are doing it, the ones I play the most are:

Soulcalibur - Xianghua or Taki
BlazBlue - Tsubaki or Nu/Lambda
Persona 4 Arena - Aigis [small](Though that's just because she's my favourite Persona character, the one I have the most fun playing is probably Mitsuru)[/small]
Tekken - Jin
Primal Rage - Vertigo
Super Smash Bros - Pikachu or Meta Knight [small](Because I'm a dirty cheater)[/small]
2D Mortal Kombat - Sektor
3D Mortal Kombat - Baraka
Arcana Heart - Saki or Akane
Guilty Gear - Millia

It's a nice training experience. Anyone who asks why i'm playing the lower tier characters in BlazBlue is hopelessly naive. Bitches, i've played PW for over a year. I can deal with some "low tier" problems.

I play Mu-12 in BlazBlue and Labrys in Persona 4 Arena. Yeah a trap/zoning/keepaway character and a rushdown pressure chick with an axe. General rule of any game, I don't care about fighting styles, I just care about how much I like the character as a person.

I would really like to be good with Makoto though but I just cannot do boxers to save my life.

Mu-12 is basically the cool version of Noel. She hates everything so she shoots things with lasers! Her zone control is really good.

Labrys just looks cool. Also has a fuck you invincible super that does half health damage.
With Chronophatasma out, I definably want to be really good with Yuki Terumi as he is a brutal combatant with a lot of meter gain and is capable of quick distortions and even highly comboable astral finishes. Plus Nakamura is really hamming it up as Terumi and it's fun as hell. Kokonoe might be a second as she has a good combination of zone and rushdown, the GOLDEN TAGER X (hard to combo and use is an understatement but it is a perfect match finish) and Kokonoe as a character is the snarky scientist type I like

my lack of time defines every aspect of my gaming, and it is no different here. I generally have very little patience for games that requires me to spend a lot of time practicing inputs or drilling esoteric scenarios / skills. For this reason, any character that requires I spend a lot of time in training mode just to get proficient in is not going to be anywhere on my hit list. My favorite character, for this reason, tends to lean towards characters that have fairly basic set ups and rely mostly on good fundamentals to succeed in.

Having said that, this is not always the case, since there are certain characters that I just have enough prior knowledge that I can pick really quickly.

i.e. in street fighter, I generally try to play Zangief as much as I can, since I know how to pull out a 360 in any given situation, and in Tekken I'll play Kazuya because I can used to be able to somewhat proficiently execute an electric wind god fist.

My first response coming into this thread is probably "sexy", but as for actual fighting style, I usually go for fast characters that can put a lot of pressure on an opponent. I rarely defend, so it's vital that I can keep the attacks flowing and not give the opponent a chance to breathe. I also prefer playing as female characters, which is nice since they are usually faster. Dead or Alive is my favorite series as it perfectly matches my play style and character preferences.

Smash Bros: Peach and Zelda
DOA: Mila and Ayane
Skullgirls: don't have a fave yet
BlazBlue: Noel
Street Fighter: Sakura
Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Roll, Jun, and Doronjo

Wait wait wait wait... Kokonoe is a playable character? As in THE Kokonoe? Pissy scientist chick? Immediate main.

Gotta say though, BlazBlue must be going through some desperate times if they've been forced to reveal their trump card character already. The BlazBlue suits must have not liked the numbers.

Yeah, she had been released on the 7th as a DLC character, plus I don't think they are desperate, 85% of stock was sold in Japan at launch. That combined with the arcade popularity means that they are doing well and that the Kokonoe thing was based on the fact that this is the final story and Kokonoe would need to do something

As a broad generalization I tend to prefer the lighter, faster more agile characters.
Chun-Li, Felicia, Tiffany Lords, Bonne Jenet, Hayato, Ivy, Kilik, Maxi...and so on and so forth.

I don't have the numbers to back it up, but I'd be willing to bet that my win ratio is probably pretty close to a 50/50 split between honest knock outs and victory by time out.

I usually only play as either the big, heavy, slow, powerful guys like Iron Tager(Blazblue), Kanji Tatsumi(P4A), Astaroth(Soul Series), Stun the Insect (Bloody Roar) or Double (Skullgirls). Or I play as the wacky, slightly joke characters like Peacock(Skullgirls), Teddie (P4A), Dan Hibiki (Street Fighter), Roger Jr. (Tekken), or Busuzima the Chameleon (Bloody Roar). There are exceptions to this, I have a soft spot for boxer type characters like Dudley (Street Fighter) or fencing based characters like Raphael (Soul Series).

I also really suck at these games, and pick characters simply for personality and aesthetics though. Also whenever given the opportunity, I make the big burly strong guys wear pink and have ridiculous afros, because it's funny.

I think I'll stick to ragna and litchi as my mains I'm not a huge fan of trapper characters(Rachel) because I can't really get their combos going since you need to set the traps while keeping the opponent in the combo and I kinda suck at timing.

Litchi is still a great mid and netural charcter, sadly Ragna has had his damage reduced by 40%; still good but not top teir
