I'm a /x/ lurker so I enjoy a good creepypasta and they seem to be good enough to be considered so. They don't rely on shock scares which is all I ask of a scary movie and there was more than a few times when I watched the first one, at 4 in the morning, where I noticed myself jump. They arn't master-pieces but in the shitpile that is horror they are pretty damn golden.

They're pretty good I think. Not scary but still good, fun to sit at the back taking the piss out of them too.

My actual reaction in a skype conversation:
"Apparently they're making a Paranormal Activity 3. Damn. We just moved on from the Saw movies last year. And PA just isn't the kind of movie that can be a "yearly horror sequel" thing."

That's my reaction.
Off to watch a horror movie that actually frightens me: Event Horizon.
awsome film (event horizon i mean)

i only seen the first one but i thought it was pretty good. the actors, especially the girl, were a bit annoying but i'll let her off cus she had an above average rating on her boobies.

the film did what most horror films nowadays dont. they make you jump! and say 'what the heck?'
when something strange is happening.

i gave it a 7 out of ten

They are ok.
It's very hard to make a decent horror movie nowadays.
C'mon people, we deal with devils, ghosts, necromorphs and such on daily basis. ;)

I've never fallen asleep during a movie, but I wanted to so bad when I saw the first two.

I find the first one to be Perfect. But that could be just because I remember not the movie itself, but rather the feel I had while watching it - it was just what I needed, when I needed, so it's rather that the first movie carries the spirit of what I most cherrish now, so thats why I love it and that's why it's one of my favorite movies. Ofcourse, I am also a big fan of the horror genre, especially of movies in the style of P.A. (Blair Witch Project, [REC.], Cloverfield, Grave Encounters, etc.). So thats why I love these movies. Offcourse the first is the best I've seen now and I've seen all 4 of them (I haven't seen only P.A. 3 - they don't release it in theathers in Bulgaria, so I wait for a DVD...), I watched the others out of respect to the original. P.A.2 was cool, but a bit too not-scary. From what I've read P.A.3 is the best one yet - can't wait to see for myself. I hope I can order it for Halloween, otherwise it won't be the same. Actually, here's a truth I can share - I'm doing a Halloween party just so me and my friends can do a Paranormal Activity marathon and if P.A.3 isn't on the list I have no idea what my explanation will be.

Nice thread. ^^

The first one did a few things right... basically the same stuff The Blair Witch did right.
Then it just went down the gutter.

I liked the first one but is because it was sort of a perfect storm of circumstances for me. I had never even heard of it when I went to see it and I knew nothing about it. I had no expectations and I was sort of in the mood for it so it worked(Except the ending which was gay).
I didn't bother seeing the other ones because it would never entertain me twice.

THEY SUCK!

Heard great reviews about the first, so my fiancee and I went to the cinema to see it, and I was bored out of my mind.

We then heard the second was better than the first, but I refused to pay to see it, so we watched it at a friend's, and it was just as bad as the first.

Now I'm hearing that the third is terrifying, and my partner is interested.
I've told her to stream the third and I'll be busy with my ps3, lol.

In short; Don't waste your time with them.

I used to love ye olde scary movies when they made me jump or feel a little tingle of fear.

Don't get it from horror films any more. The last time I felt fear with regards to a film was when one of my daughters wanted me to watch Camp Rock with her ..... noooooooooooo ...... was my far to over dramatic response.

Paranormal Activity.

My wife enjoyed the first one. Didn't mind the second one, she hasn't seen the third yet.

I fell asleep during the first one, started reading PCGamer during the second one and really, really don't want to see the third.

Easily the most overrated modern horror movie franchise with the possible exception of the Saw sequels. The first one is at the very best decent. The idea was novel and the execution was more or less successful only in the most mediocre way possible. A tad too long and repetitive but nothing too bad. Still overrated. Honestly, the most compelling thing about the sequels is how much they show me the original did right despite me not really liking it that much. Part 2 is stupid, ruins the horror by over explaining the "mythology" and the actors are too stagy to really buy into it. Yeah, the protagonist in the first one weren't exactly stellar but they were at least authentic.

Having already seen Part 3, I can say it's about as bad as the second one but for slightly different reasons. The acting is a lot more believable save for one token best friend character. Unfortunately, the mythology is explained even further, making it that less scary. Without giving away any spoilers, the ending is about as goofy and turgid as the last 10 minutes of The Last Exorcism, if you saw it. Also, the only new gimmicks in this one are that it's set in 1988 (despite having the footage look mostly digital and less analogue) and the children-in-danger cliche is intact since the characters are pretty lifeless. But even the children-in-danger cliche falls flat because said kids are Katie and Kristi, who we KNOW will not be killed off so there goes that suspense. Also, nothing diminishes dread and terror like a jump cut. Where this series is going can be summed up in this last statement; the scariest parts in Paranormal Activity 3 are when side characters pop up just to fuck around with the characters. Yep, the most terror this movie gets can be replicated with YouTube prank videos.

They aren't the MESSIAH THATS GOING TO BRING BACK HORROR TO ITS BLOODY ROOTS! But they certainly did try. Most people who saw it and were genuinely scared probably never saw any real horror movies from back in the day. Hell, I know why too, because most parents try to stop their kids from realizing the world their in, and to stop them from becoming serial killers, so they block out the evils.

If you can, look at binding of Isaac's Story, it shows the evils of doing this or being HEAVILY based into religion. Honestly, this is why the "PROTECT THE CHILDREN" thing is so bad, what your doing is raising a baby that will never age past that immaturity. They have to be aware of the world to be a responsible adult.

So incredibly boring. I like watching horror movies, even the bad ones but paranormal activity is just plain boring.

I found them rediculously boring...
I won't spend 1,5 hours waiting untill some door goes berserk indictating something is wrong...

If you want a good movie with a haunting touch and a nice backstory:
SEE "Insidious"!!!

Going with the general flow here, i found them all dull, there were a few moments where i said to myself 'they could do something cool here.' but they were all promptly shutdown by 'thats what there going to do? yawn.....
paranormal activity is not a horror.. its like a high-schooler or even a primary schoolers home movie attempt at being scary, based on cliches, bad novels and too many Hollywood remakes.
