hey guys this summer I'm definitely going to join a branch of the military. I ruled out army and marines, but I am stuck between air force and navy. I need some opinions. Any actual experience in either really helps a lot
thanks!

My friend joined the Royal Air Force, they're treating him pretty well and he loves it.

I shouldn't be listened to in regards to military, not having any want to join, but I was always partial to the Air Force.

Then the biggest questions, how tall are you and do you get seasick?

If that's the case, I would say Air Force. My cousin is in the NZRAF and he's a mechanic and enjoys every day of it.

Well Navy if you want to work with mechanics you could keep the guns working.... but air force is a lot more secure.

Again, no personal experience, but from what I hear Navy ships have small hatches, you may not like that, but I don't know. Just go with whichever one you like.

If you have decent physics grades is high school you can fly fighter jets if you join the Airforce.

Joining the navy is all well and good but DON'T be a submariner.
Oh, I didn't read this bit. you are too tall to ply fighter planes.

Getting seasick isn't really a big deal anyway. I know a guy who get terrible sea sickness and he can wourk on ships fine. Those things are huge. He says you don't even feel it most of the time.

Go into the Air Force and make Warrant Officer. Unless you want to dump in some college time to make brass-officer ranks. Not a whole lot of post-military career applicable jobs in the Air force unless you want to be a pilot, supply officer, or aircraft mechanic. There's other jobs, too, but nothing really special. It's easier to get top secret clearances in the Air Force, since alot of jobs require the operation of classified electronics.

Go into the Navy and go for Chief ranks. EM, MM and VBSS are the way to go if you want applicable skills out of the military.
You tend to travel more in the Navy, too. So, if you want to go to some really awesome places and get paid to do it, go Navy.

It all depends on what you want to do after the military. Do you want to go career military or do you want to cycle out when your enlistment is up?

I would go with Airforce. But it really depends what you want to be. Paratrooper or pilot or something? Then go airforce.

Probably Navy - Lots of job options. Coolest one probably loading bombs on jets (I forget which color shirt that is)

I think I'm planning on possibly going for retirement. If i hate the service i will probably drop after enlistment. Its also kinda odd, the air force recruiter is putting almost no pressure on me where the navy recruiter is kinda pressuring me so Im a little hesitant

A wise choice. Everybody wants to be a pilot, but the reality of it is that the requirements are so high and the processing too long, very few applicants make it to the end. And even if they do make it, there's a good chance they wouldn't be selected.

That being said, I would say Air Force. My dad was in for 20 years, doing maintenance on planes and munitions. He loved it, and I learned a fair bit as well. Also, if you're not looking to work too hard, Air Force seems to be the most laidback branch, at least from what I've experienced.

Well as you can see on this forum, the Air Force is very popular. Probably due to the idea that it has a higher survivability rate. The Navy, however, has a problem of being it tight ships with men, lots of men.

Ummh no, you need a college degree with a 3.0 gpa or better to fly jets, that's for any branch in the US military. Not to mention perfect vision, and in outstanding physical shape. Plus, very, very few people ever get into fighters, like the top 2% of all people who do become pilots in the military get the chance to fly fighters.

On topic.

If you want to become and aviation mechanic, then Air Force is for you, though the Navy has the exact same oppurtunities but you'll live on a boat for 6 months at a time. Your height doesn't matter, one of our mechanics at the airfield was a plane captain and airframe troubleshooter on the USS Ranger and he's 6' 4". Aviation maintence transfers well into the civilian job market if you want to work for an airline with US based maintence. Working privately or in a small shop servicing general aviation can be a good job, but I know more GA mechanics that are starving rather than going to cocktail parties.

As for general lifestyle the Air Force will be more relaxed, but the Navy will probably be more fun if you're in the 18-26 age range.

I have a few friends in the Navy nuke program and they love it, but it's got some super intensive studying. But when you get out, you'll have a very nice paying salary job.

IF you get higher than a 95 on the ASVAB and don't have ANY drug/alcohol charges you could think about doing intelligence or linguistics. They both translate rather well into the civilian job market.
