According to CPU-Z I have a Pegatron NARRA3 mother board, and I was wondering what CPU's can I use with it? I currently have the Phenom x2 9550 at 2.2 MHz quad core, I might look to upgrade soon.

According to the internet, that motherboard is AM2+ compatible. This means you can run AM2 and AM2+ socketed processors (Which, it would appear, newegg.com does not sell anymore).

I also have found unsupported claims that you can run AM3+ processors, despite the pin-out differences.

Honestly, you probably don't need to upgrade your processor. I would suggest holding out until you can replace the entire system (Motherboard, processor, and RAM).

EDIT: I am not responsible for any monetary lose if you attempt to buy a AM3 processor. It doesn't sound right that it works. I am only repeating a questionable fact I have found.

Went on wikipedia, found this:
AMD confirmed that AM2 processors will work on AM2+ motherboards and AM2+ processors will work on AM2 motherboards. However, the operation of AM2+ processors on AM2 motherboards will be limited to the specifications of Socket AM2 (1 GHz HyperTransport 2.0, and one power plane for both cores and the IMC). AM2 processors do not benefit from the faster HyperTransport 3.0 and separate power planes on AM2+ motherboards.
Also, all I'm interested in is AMD processors, as I like the name more.*Yes that is my reason* That, and it would appear as if Intel processors do not compute.
Also, mind explaining the quote from wikipedia for me?

AM2+ processors/motherboards have a higher bus speed (Basically, the speed of the 'wire' between the processor and the motherboard).

However, an AM2 processor can only run at AM2 speeds, regardless of how fast the motherboard is, and vice versa.

Think of it like a car: just because you raise the speed limit to 200 mph, doesn't mean your car can go that fast. And just because you have a car that can drive at 200 mph, doesn't mean it can drive that fast if the speed limit is only 100 mph.

There are various other differences, but none that should concern you.

As for preferring AMDs due to their name... your PC, guy.

So, I'd have to make a new computer? Is there anyway I could perhaps custom build it on newegg without the graphics card in, and port my Geforce 450 over?

Yes. Very easily actually.

But, honestly, with a 2.2 GHz processor, a GeForce 450, and 4 gigs of RAM, you should be okay for a bit. The cost would not be worth the gain.

EDIT: You don't NEED to remake the PC, you just have to get an AM2+ (Which, like I said, I can't seem to find on newegg, and I don't get PC parts anywhere else, myself).

No new processor uses the AM2 socket, apparently.
Also, 2.2 doesn't seem to be enough to handle today's games anymore, at least not according to Mount and Blade and TF2.

Double post, but yea whatever.
I just got off chat with customer service at Puget custom computers, and he says that AMD is great with backwards compatibility, and that as long as the CPU stays under the 95V limit, I should be able to get an AM3 processor! YAY! But, of course there's always the chance it might not work.
EDIT: With a BIOS update.

Be careful with that. It sounds like iffy business.

Other then that, sounds like you got a plan. Forge onward.
