Depends on what mood I am in, sometimes I like to get stuck in and be in the middle of it and sometimes I like to stand back and reign death down on them!

Then again I have only played 1 kind of MMO, runescape, so not the best game to have any MMO experience in.

If I were to get into a serious MMO I think it would be rift, don't know why though.

in RPG's in general like dragon age origins and the like, i tend to play as a rogue, mainly for the stealth, satisfying splat of a backstab or critical and the skills that warriors and mages just cant do, plus the long range rogues like archers can decimate someone before they get close.

I like being a ranged/melee class like the hunter in WoW. Being able to take down half a guy's health before he can even hit me and then engaging in melee combat in which my character is also semi-skilled at works well for me. Classes that focus of ranged combat get raped when something gets close and melee classes often get raped trying to run at something firing ranged attacks at them.

in fantasy settings i have always being partial to mages, in MMOs i like classes that can also heal because i like healing(also play medics in shooters) but still want to be able to kill stuff without having to level again. examples: shaman in wow, rune-guy in LOTRO

I always gravitate towards the ranger-hunter-sniper-type-thing. There's just something I love about the idea of a hooded guy with a bow springing out of the forest.

It's a shame we always get burdened with pets I think... I prefer to play without them following me around. Of course it doesn't help that they often end up clipping all over everything or standing on top of me, which is a little awesome-breaking (looking at you, WoW).
You know, you can dimiss your pet and call it when you need it.

I'm the backstabbing bastard you all hate, the one behind you giving cheap shots and stealing brief cases, rogues, spies and assassins all the way baby.

Mage or attack magic user. I love to know I can kill an enemy with a fireball the size of the sun.

DPS, warrior, two-handed, because "Rargh I hit them with my giant sword of fuck you up!". I literally shout that when I play Rift. Because I think it's fun.

It depends on the game more than anything, but if I HAD to pick something, I guess I'd say either a support class or a tank. I like support since they normally get a nice medley of things to do, along with not having the same burden of performance as pure DPS. You normally don't end up doing the exact same thing in every group. I enjoy tanking since I get to set the pace of the group, which is pretty break neck, or so I am usually informed. I got the server first for a speed completion of an expert in Rift when I wasn't even going to get it, for example (quit before my first month was up... what an over-hyped PoS). Some people like it, some people don't.

Usually the 'Rogue' class or the 'Mage' class, sort of depends on the classes' specific fields and their niche, i mean my first class in Guild Wars was a Mesmer...they looked cool, but it got tedious to play later on, same thing could be said about Mages in WoW, i was an Ice Mage and had it all, basically Freezing stuff to the floor and AoE'ing stuff was great, espcially when i was using my Water Elemental as a Worm on a fishing hook when attracting tons of Ogres for Obsidian Beads....but Mages suck in any sort of PvP enviroment, everyone plays Rogues and stuff, i mean i get Stunned, Sapped and even Silenced by people who plays as a Blood Elf... -,-

I tend to roll a tank, good fun having everything trying to kill you and just manning up and taking it like a boss, that or a big axe weilding DPS.

I play everything except for rogue-like classes. The first type I will make though is a support class, sometimes a healer, but if the game has a non-healer support class, that's mine.

Casters, preferably battlefield control, but if not, then (glass) cannons

I favor the magic classes better except for a healer. I get tired quickly of the "heals plz" or "buffs plz" thing. I don't have to buff or heal you unless you'r in my party. Also, I like doing dps from a distance, if I'm close to an enemy then I worry too much about my health.

Generally all of them to some extent. I almost always have three or four different classes going at once or I'll bounce around as I feel like it. In WoW, the most recent MMO I played for any amount of time, I started with a rogue, then went to a warlock, then a warrior, then I think I played the rogue again, then the warlock again, then I made a paladin, and then I might have played the warrior again....and then I made a shaman! I might have missed something in there, but that was spread out from vanilla until Cataclysm, with a lot of extended breaks and server transfers. I haven't played for about 8 months now, I think. Oh, I just remembered that I had a druid in there somewhere. Totally forgot about that one. I think it was before the shaman.
