I'd say an army of mere mortals equipped with guns which basically have the damage output of a flashlight who fight and die every day against the most messed up kinds of evil which threaten to destroy the galaxy are pretty badass.

I hate it how Dawn of War games make them look like incompetent louts.
Without the Imperial Guard the Imperium cannot stand.

When I saw this thread I immeadiately thought Ash, to me he's the definition of badass. He takes the fight rather the flight option and kicks ass. He is in the horror movie scenario and instead of getting hunted down and killed trying to get away he says 'Actually no' and replaces his hand with a chain saw. Awesome.

Is it an ice cold demeanor and being silent but deadly? (Halo, Bioshock)
Is it being boisterous on the battlefield and glorying in the slaughter of your enemies? (Heavy Weapons Guy)
Is it delivering one-liners and acting all macho? (Gears of War)

or did i miss the point completley?
are the requirements any different depending on gender?
am i asking too many questions?

An ice cold, silent demeanor doesn't really deliver complete badassery except through actions and there are some times you wont be able to act.
I wouldn't take the Heavy as a great example because he's completely unhinged.
Delivering one-liners and having biceps like baby yaks isn't that hard to pull off.

Gordon Freeman. Silent. Deadly. Feared. Loved. He has the Messiah-like presence to him.

A badass moment is the sudden collective realization that someone or something possessing great bravado is in complete control of a dangerous situation. The level of badass is dictated by the severity of the situation and the contrast in the character of interest's level of control was believed to be.

I would describe a character as badass based upon the frequency with which they participate in such moments.

Examples:
(just providing out of context quotes for the sake of not writing a novel to set up the context, if you've seen these, you'll know them, if not, look them up)
V for Vendetta- "My turn."
Aliens- "Get away from her you *****!"
Firefly pilot episode- the ending

Yes they are, every Tyranide genom is bio-engineered for one purpose. When said purpose is fulfilled they return to the Hive ship where they were made, so they can be broken down to a basic bio-mass which can be reused.
