It was my birthday on the 18th so I went and bought a game I've been wanting for a while; Vanquish.
I really enjoyed the demo so I naturally thought I would enjoy the game. And ohh yes I'm loving it so far. The high speed/slow-mo over the top action is really fun, and some of the levels were hugely enjoyable eg. the train mission. Why can't there be more games like this?

What did you think of it, if you've played it?

I really hate games where you have to play as a total douchebag, so I hated Vanquish

I think i would have loved the gameplay(you use rocket boots to dodge a fuckton of missles in the demo!) if it didn't give me the worst migraine of my life after a minute of playing the demo.

I think it was meant to be a parody of machoish western protagonists or something

2nd best game of 2010, imo. With #1 going to Bayonetta.

I adored it to pieces.

I must have play that game 4 times straight. Even got the trophy for not dying and everything.

A sublime blend of Western and Japanese ideas of what a third person shooter can be.

Fast-paced action, blisteringly-colorful particle effects, upgradeable weapons, ridiculous, over-the-top dialogue, with a cheesy, equally ridiculous and over-the-top twist. I don't know any other way to say that I loved every minute of it.

I enjoyed it until I realized that every level played exactly the same.

But the first 2 hours was a blast!

did you get to the stealth sniper section?
because that's literally the only part that is not "shoot shit and dodge enough bullets/rockets to obliterate a small planet"
although 2 hours in you are halfway through and you didn't even get to the fun part where you walk on walls.

i really liked the game but i hated the that you could prevent loosing your upgrades(which was a weird mechanic to begin with) by going to the menu after dying and reloading. it just added about 30 seconds every time i died.

First 2 hours?

Wow. You were probably almost at the end, to be honest. It's only 3-4 hours. Might as well have finished it. :p

I remember when I first heard about it. The concept was very intriguing to me (blazing fast-paced 3rd person cover-based-type shooter with fancy acrobatic and an awesome suit), the more I heard about it the more I got excited.
I finally got to play the demo. It was pretty cool (Personally; it was awesome), but I knew I wasn't going to purchase it when it came out. The controls weren't the best, the story and characters were lacking (Not offending, just uninteresting), and it seemed like its one of those games that gets old quick.
It's another victim of my budget. the kind of game I love for what it is, (regardless of what it isn't), but it wouldn't have been responsible for me to buy it.

My biggest problem is that I felt ammunition was unnecessary. During boss fights, I often found myself running around looking for more just to kill it. It didn't really flow well, I felt, with a game so focused on fast-paced action. I was also disappointed with how melee drained your entire energy bar, leaving you completely vulnerable. It was quite short, and the gameplay could sometimes get repetitive. The story should not at all be taken seriously. It's the Japanese taking the piss on American action heroes and space marines. Other than that, it was really fun and engaging.

It was a really good game with some really good ideas. I'd suggest getting it. You'll more than likely enjoy it, and it's good to support companies which try to bring a little variety to the table.

When I saw trailers for it, it looked pretty good. I was sort of on the line about buying it though, and in the end I decided it wasn't really worth it. I never got it, but it still looks like an alright game.

Worth it for sure, although a tad short (I think I finished it in about 2 days). Spent a while on the challenges too, which are pretty insane. I loved the game, and many games like it. By this I mean games where in the beginning, you are given all these awesome mechanics to be a blazing action hero, but at first you're like an unco moron tripping over himself. And pretty soon you are flipping around blasting foes like a ballerina on steroids.

And after a few more hours, you are supreme being/jackie chan/chow yun-fat incarnate, untouchable walking razor blade. Bayonetta felt like that too. Naw, it's a really good game, give it a chance and you won't be disappointed (to anyone who hasn't yet).

That annoyed the hell out of me.
It's bullshit; imagine if in COD when you stabbed someone, your screen went red and you had to take cover and regenerate. I'm in goddamn power armor, I shouldn't have to completely drain my suit's energy to punch someone. Just give me a weak default melee that drains little or no power, and maybe a really strong armor wrecking melee that drains full power. [Tap or hold melee]

It was worth playing but it wasn't exactly a great game, though the few bits of originality it had were quite satisfying. Dunno if I'd buy a sequel though.
