What do Brits do in the Summer?

The British gave the world a specific invention for just this purpose: The Beer Garden!

Being only slightly more serious, we have always been a nation dominated by the sea, and modern summer is no exception. Surfing at places like Sennen, Croyd or Newquay. Sailing - shitloads of sailing - all along the coast. Rowing, canoeing and kayaking on the rivers.

Strawberry picking's a good one too. And village fairs; man, do those villages love them some fairs. Music festivals have been mentioned, but what about beer festivals, hmm?

Other than that, I guess enjoying the countryside. Honestly, I think there a few places in the world more pleasant than rolling green English hills or woodland, or strolling rivers and canals, when the sun finally pushes past 25C.

Unless, of course, like me and apparently Daystar you spend several weeks of it getting ruined on hayfever.

I go out to the park or a forest and just jam on the guitar. I like playing the song of storms when it starts raining. Makes me feel awesome.

Hike around the Lake District, host/go to barbecues and hang out in beer gardens after work, usually. Perfect way to spend a summer if you ask me.

Me personally- play sport, work at a pub in order to get out of my overdraft, go clubbing, catch up with friends from back home, meet up with friends from Uni, plan stuff for the next university year (Including studying for next year and my retakes I will inevitably have to do), work out.

I think that covers most of it. Oh, and meet new people, but I do that all the time. All about the silver tongue.

well we complain about the heat, for the one week it's hot. then we complain about the cold and rain.

It's strange, because it's rainy season in Japan right now, and it's already hotter than England. And it's supposed to get even hotter in a month or two here.

So it seems that going to music festivals is the other biggie here. Thanks for the list guys.

Seriously though, I tend to do a bit of gardening while the weathers nice. Always some sport to do, or go to a beach. I've also been going to the Globe for the last few years to see the plays.

Summer? Whaaaaat? Britain and the general area barely has noticeable seasons half the time. Obviously I'm exaggerating but compared to most of Japan, we don't have much season contrast...

Which music festivals are in the Summer?

There are loads, I'll see how many I can think of off the top of my head. Latitude, Rockness, T in the Park, Glastonbury, Kendal Calling, Leeds Festival, V Festival, Isle of Wight Festival, Hard Rock Calling. I'm pretty sure there all in the summer.

Don't forget Download, the Cambridge Folk Festival, Reading (same as Leeds but in Reading), Radio 1's Big Weekend, and so on. Also there are a shit-ton of festivals that aren't strictly music ones going on. Every county has one happening as well as the famed Edinburgh festival, you also have car shows, cider festivals, food festivals, farmer's markets (I live in the South West, can you tell? ).

On music there's also the Proms.

Apart from Festivals, Cricket(the Ashes is only once ever 4 years in the UK), tennis, camping. Go to the beech, complain that its to hot, complain that its not hot, complain that it' raining, complain that there's not been enough rain. Drink summer alcohol so Pimm's, G&T, Cider (which should be dry and preferably cloudy) Rose wine. Have BBQs, picnics. Go to summer shows. Every 2 years we watch England lose in a major association football tournament. Watersports.

Go and visit even hotter parts of the world.

Go to a warmer country on the continent and see how little of their language you can get away with speaking.
Or if you can't afford that go on shitty camping holiday to some trash littered, overcrowded beach and pray it doesn't rain, then decide to get a better job so you can go to the south of France next year.

I'd say also, sitting on a picnic blanket in the park or a garden and drinking cider, often whilst having a barbeque.

But srsly: Meet with mates at the various fetes, fairs and festivals, and generally get drunk and have a laugh.

We go to parties and pubs and clubs without any jackets on, otherwise known as the single greatest experience in the history of human kind.

And then we pretend that we don't actually really need those jackets because it's still fucking cold.

I live in in the deepest south of Cornwall, Straw Dogs territory, so I tend to sneak off to the nice beaches that few of the Emmets know about and also complain that all the roads are clogged up.

Wheyyy, a fellow Cornishman. I was pretty sure that I was the only one in the county with an internet connection.

Anyhow, I think typically it's all about the festivals, beaches and trying to wade through vast seas of tourists in the towns. The weather is a fickle beast though, so it's probably equally just sitting inside waiting for the sun to shine.

Play some cricket in the sun. People here have mentioned watching it, but my family always played it back in the day.

We've gotten lazier in recent years. D:
