Mostly in general guys. What do you like about Forums? What do you think would be cool in forums? What sort of things does the Escapist have, or other forums that has something compared to your average forum?

I rather like the people most of all. I've been to a lot of forums, and I can safely say that not only are there a lot of regulars here, but on average, they're much more clever than your normal forumite. I guess I really like that.

This is pretty much what I was going to say. I really do like the people here and while I'm not very personal with a lot of the regulars, I recognize them and I like hearing what they have to say.

I'm also a lot more familiar with all the coding command stuff here than I ever was with any other forum, as I had to be so I could post the stuff I wanted to. Something about this place just keeps bringing me back and I gladly return.

Pretty much the interesting topics and any trolls or jerks are ban and thus this place is pleasant.

I like the fact that since it's not instant, people take time typing out responses as opposed to the fucking lazy habits that occur in chatrooms (and YouTube, even though YouTube's comment section is more like a forum than a chatroom, people still act like they need to type in a hurry). Makes people's posts and responses much more readable. That's also just due to the general atmosphere on the Escapist - here, if you type like an idiot, you're treated like an idiot. I like that.

There's also the general level of intelligence (on this site in particular, in no way are all forums intelligent places). People here seem to think before they post, which avoids moronic replies and facilitates proper discussion as opposed to people just typing their opinion at you over and over. Then again, it makes it all the more irritating when someone decides to be a twat.

I like the quote function, the ease of bookmarking and editing. Oh and sometimes the topics in OT are interesting. I live elsewhere though.

I sadly live somewhere with no one I can find who has a similar liking for gaming as I do. The forums are a nice place to talk about all the aspects of a medium I love and some of my favorite games.

On the downside, the anonymity is a mixed bag. It's much easier to strike up an in- depth conversation without some of the social pressures you feel when meeting new people, but it can also be much harder to have reasonable discussions with some people who are... less than reasonable. The anonymity of these forums can be a social relief, but also an attraction to the kind of people who no one wants to talk to IRL.

It's kind of addictive to get lost in other people's thoughts.

That's it for me, anyway.

I second this.

A really interesting topic on this site can keep me reading longer than TV Tropes. Sharing ideas and opinions in a respectful manner is always interesting. Reminds me of university.

Forums are utter rubbish. Seriously don't see the need to read the same 5 comments for 8 pages. Before someone makes the lame observation about how I am posting on a forum and bashing forums at the same time look at my post count and join date plus I was just reading a article and saw this in the latest post box.(Not only the Escapists forums but all forums in general.)

The people and the threads they create. The variety of the posts and how well thought out most of them are are both things I love.

Also, forum games. The forum game section is lots of fun.

I like how sometimes, when the planets align, I can say something that everyone will like and agree with. Usually I'm just quoted so I can know how wrong I apparently am, but it's still nice because people are respectful (most of the time).
