The other day I was looking through a book about graphic design (I'm a graphic design and illustration student) and I found an image of Wilson Bryan Key's book Subliminal Seduction. It looks like this:
I found it, for some reason, hilarious to see a picture of a glass of liquid underneath the words 'ARE YOU BEING SEXUALLY AROUSED BY THIS PICTURE' in capitalised red letters, and was struck with the urge to start a blog which would literally just consist of posts using this cover but with different pictures photoshopped in instead of the gin.
I still cannot explain my behaviour, but a few days later I'm still updating the blog and finding it unreasonably funny.
I do also have a blog about my illustration/design work (aimed at people who may potentially want to hire me for it) and a blog that just kind of serves as a diary for me to reblog inspirational or thought provoking posts that I want to remember (edit - this makes me sound dead pretentious, I'd like to clarify that I'm talking about other people's artwork or a bit of political discussion, not pictures of trees with a truism plastered across it in a trendy font) and very occasionally to indulge in a fandom (having made the previous clarification I admit that this is Tumblr I run it on), but the very specific and obscure Subliminal Seduction mods blog is the first time I've done a blog that was themed, and it's surprisingly satisfying.
On a side note, one of my friends who runs an unregularly updated blog about feminism and lefty politics recently got a little bit internet famous for a post she did about why you shouldn't judge all people on benefits. It was interesting seeing her updating on Facebook the number of hits she was getting with glee (in its tens of thousands in the end) and she got mentioned by the Guardian (big left-wing newspaper in the UK) and an obligatory Reddit thread about her.
So, do you blog? What about? Or do you follow any blogs and why? Have you ever got a particularly good response to a blog, or even found it got you a job?
(Incidentally, I've been careful not to include links to any of these 'cause I don't want to break the no advertising rules on the Escapist, I friendly-ly suggest that you don't post links to our own stuff either although I'm sure posting links to other people's that you like isn't so bad.)
