What do you do when there's one hour left?

I tend to go full-bore right down to the wire and don't know how to fathom people who don't. I mean, I know they exist and I don't hate them or anything, I just can't imagine myself standing around when there's something, however insignificant, left to be done. Which there always is.

Well I can't really leave until the restaurant is clean, and I'm very thorough when I clean, so normally clean tables, sweep and mop, also dry the dishes and refill the sauce bottles, so I'm normally very busy at that time, also working at a restaurant is kind off disgusting, if you are very neat I wouldn't recommend it, sometimes you end up bathed in sauce, I hate it.

Usually frantically leaving notes one the board explaining the questions to the tutors on the last shift (Who haven't taken a chemistry class in two years, and don't have time to get up to speed on the info), and answering questions from the Intro Chem kids desperate for my help before my shift is up.
I love tutoring, but at this point I'm basically teaching a supplementary conference course to 30 or so kids a week when they mob the tutoring center the night before the problem set is due. Having taught atomic theory to both a room full of thirty 8 year olds, and a room full of 30 college freshmen, I'm going to have to say the 8 year olds are better at it and easier to teach.

Usually I'm in a fucking torpor from lunch onwards and I don't get a single thing worth discussing done. Like today!

I like to spread my laziness out...I get bits and pieces of work done throughout the day. Buuuuuuuuut..........

Well, as my OP said, I'm certainly not gonna be moving any mountains.

At my old job I usually spent my last hour screwing around with apps on my phone, all the work was inevitably done by then, kinda felt like hurry up and wait(no connection to the military), hoping no one would pull me into their pointless conversations(I'm not shy, I just have nothing to say to some people). I was actually happy when there was some leftover task that got me out of the room, so I didn't have to spend time sitting around. A lot of times I'd go find random people in the building to have conversations with and just spend 20 minutes talking to them as opposed to going back to the office room.

as I work a closing shift and I'm not allowed till all my work is done, I work my ass off in the last hour, I really hate my job.

I try to blank out all the reasons why I am even doing this in the first place. Just like a river of shit, it all comes flooding into my mind. I think about all the wrong choices I made, or how some people truly deserve to work here for the rest of their life. Mostly just self loathing followed by hunger.

Good lord.....sounds like you've got just the most fantastic job imaginable...

Seriously, I gotta ask what it is you do for a living that leaves you with such an outlook. I mean I think I've got a crappy job, but you sound downright bitter about yours.

I usually try to look diligent and attentive to my lecturer, while continually gazing at my watch and thinking, "C'mon bastard, just five minutes left!"

I usually just camp the vending machines and clean my desk. I'm a repair technician, so having a clean workspace is good. especially when you can eat candy with one hand while you clean.

I come to work early to beat the traffic, so the 3 o'clock break time (supposed to be 15 mins, everyone chats for 20+) usually leaves me with a half hour of time left at the end of the day. Which means I catch up on local news, The Awesomer, and here. And shuffle some papers around, or go talk to my boss about something, because everyone else in the office leaves half and hour to an hour later than me and I feel bad (not really). So, no, I don't do much either.

Haha there is actually 1 hour left until I finish, and I'm going on holiday tomorrow so time is going extra slow! I usually spend it wasting as much time as possible, going to get water, going for a smoke, or eating. And on the escapist of course.

Buy the time my shift have 1 hour to go, work is pretty much done and all senior management is already at home so i just play some J-RPG on my PSP.

It's hard to say really. When I started this gig in September I would work 8 hours straight with maybe 15 minutes of laziness when I also ate lunch. Recently I have been doing whatever the fuck I want 38 hours out of the 40 hour work week... my boss keeps saying, "Sorry I don't have more for ya." At least I am getting paid for nothing >.>

well, if there are people i could have an interesting conversation with i will do that, if not i will pull out my phone, listen to one of the podcasts i never get to listen to and do some menial task to keep my hands busy. .

I'm a store clerk. I stack groceries, check out groceries, count groceries and price groceries. Which is in the end of the day a lot of lifting actually. If you get the right assignments. As a martial artist, I see the value in this and so. The last hour of work, no matter how deadbeat I am. I use all my energy on leaving that store shining! I straight up errors and make sure there is more than enough milk in the fridge. Because in Norway, we love us some milk.
